‘Veera Simha Reddy’ movie review: Balakrishna misspent on a mind-numbing template

If only they thought of how to break the formula and write engaging scenes with logic, nandamuri balakrishna’s ‘veera simha reddy’ would have had more than just flying henchmen, computer-generated blood, and a template stuck on a pattern.

When a filmmaker like Gopichand Malineni joins hands with a superstar like Nandamuri Balakrishna, it isn’t outrageous to expect a masala film with a half-decent story, some loud, trailblazing action sequences, and fanfare moments that cater to Balayya’s stardom. And in Veera Simha Reddy , Gopichand brings everything you associate with the star and tries to push the limits — a glance or a flick of his finger sends a burst of wind, a glass of water inside the building ripples when Balayya steps out of his car, and goons attacking him wait for his punch dialogues to land and even obey him at times... you get the idea. But for any of these to even carry an ounce of seriousness, you need an engaging package, and Veera Simha Reddy is anything but that.

It has a tepid storyline that works against such ‘Balayya moments’ and the writing is all over the place. Take for instance this sequence at the very beginning of this film. Jai (Balayya), who is living with his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) in Istanbul, meets Esha (Shruti Haasan) in a chance encounter at his car showroom. For the story to progress, Esha has to fall in love with Jai and a dance number is required. This is how Gopichand goes about it — Jai finds drugs in a car, the police are called, Esha snorts the drug by accident, breaks into a dance at that very spot, the dance goes viral, and Esha finds a soft spot for Jai. If you think this is messy, there are worse shocks in store.

Veera Simha Reddy (Telugu)

The bigger story has little or no relevance to this scene — it’s as if Shruti’s only purpose in this film is to be a sidekick in the dance numbers. The story is set in a village in Rayalaseema, where a vengeful Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) repeatedly attempts to kill Jai’s father and faction leader, Veera Simha Reddy (Balayya, any surprises?), for some unknown reason. From here, for most parts of the film, a pattern repeats: Pratap attacks Jai/ Veera with a gang of henchmen, they are all sent flying, and he is pardoned. Attack. Flight. Pardon. Repeat.

A visible effort towards novelty can be seen only in finding newer, more outrageous ways of letting the henchmen levitate mid-air, but even in these action sequences, Balayya’s actions are stuck in a pattern. You wouldn’t be surprised if a major chunk of the budget was used just for blasting cars, the computer-generated blood, and the ropes used in action choreography. The scenes are poorly constructed, sequenced, and full of logical errors. Pratap’s men infiltrate a mass wedding ceremony organised by Veera and masquerade as the grooms. So, the brides never suspected that the man they are about to marry is different? Once they are thulped and sent out, the weddings happen casually and there is a groom present for every bride. In a different scene, a supposedly pivotal one, a lead character is faced with danger, and Honey Rose, who you know is in the scene, just disappears until it’s too late. You would expect this in an old television serial, but not in a 2023 star vehicle.

Logic loopholes and poorly constructed scenes aside, the very screenplay is formulaic and straight as an arrow. Good writing can even make you root for an already deceased character in a flashback. Not the case in Veera Simha Reddy , where the writing consistently dumps information and doesn’t withhold any for suspense or better pay-offs. Much of the second half of the film is a long-drawn flashback sequence, and you see the twists and turns from a mile away. Routine emotional beats with poorly executed pay-off sequences only add more worry, and Thaman’s thundersome background scores go in vain. Oh, even sitting through the mediocre soundtrack of this film takes effort, thanks to their formulaic placements.

It’s also ridiculous how the film makes a laughing stock out of Duniya Vijay’s character, who is easily one of the weakest onscreen villains. Other than a sequence in which he acts on a tip-off, he does nothing villainy on his own, let alone intelligent. He comes off as a two-dimensional video game character that has only three control options: pick sickle and scream (or) get beaten by Balayya (or) shout at his wife for questioning manhood. And Veera Simha Reddy is replete with lots of regressive ideas as well. For instance, Meenakshi’s character arc gives her no agency when a life-altering decision is made, and both she and Esha are reduced to dolls of seduction for the two Balakrishna characters. It’s disappointing that even actors like Easwari Rao and Lal (who play Veera’s aunt and uncle) are used as just props in the frame.

These issues cannot be entirely attributed to the perils of having a star like Balakrishna. In fact, he just does what he is always known for. Akhanda , his previous film with Boyapati Srinu, had its lulls but it kept you engaged with regular pay-off moments. Violent scenes that bank on shock value, powerful antagonists, and an intriguing larger narrative worked well to complement the slow-motion chest-thumping moments. In Veera Simha Reddy , we have a loosely knit and archaic narrative told through a template screenplay.

What’s it about?

Jai Simha Reddy (Nandamuri Balakrishna) and his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) have established themselves in Istanbul, Turkey. Jai Simha Reddy and Eesha (Shruti Haasan) are in love and plan to marry. Despite their estrangement, Meenakshi invites Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) to their son’s wedding in Turkey.

Flashback! A faction leader in Kurnool, Veera Simha Reddy is also well-liked for his kindness. His stepsister (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar) develops hatred for him as a result of one incident. She eventually married Veera Simha Reddy’s archenemy, Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay).

What was the source of the schism between Veera Simha Reddy’s sister and brother, and why did she vow to kill him? Will Jai Simha complete what his father began?

For their first film together, Nandamuri Balakrishna and ‘Krack’ director Gopichand Malineni kick things off with a bang in ‘Veera Simha Reddy’. The introduction of the character of Veera Simha Reddy kicks off the drama after a forgettable love interest track involving the younger Balakrishna and Shruti Haasan.

As the benevolent faction leader Veera Simha Reddy, Balakrishna roars in his signature fashion while spitting out punch lines. He delivers the goods, as expected by his followers, dressed to the nines. Despite being formulaic, the first half is still fairly interesting and engaging. Balakrishna’s acting style and swagger are huge reasons for this. There are also political dialogues.

Up until the intermission, the story primarily focuses on Veera Simha Reddy and his rivalry with Pratap Reddy (played by Duniya Vijay). When the first half concludes, it does so with a dramatic twist. Although the second act makes an effort to build on the interval bang, it ultimately devolves into more mundane sibling drama.

While the later part is sufficiently story-driven, it lacks any truly compelling features. Furthermore, the explanation for the misunderstanding between the siblings appears clumsy and flimsy. I no longer expect subtlety or logic from mainstream entertainment. Mass entertainers, however, are expected to be so captivating that they make us forget about these things entirely. The second half of the film, however, is a letdown.

The film is dominated by numerous action sequences.

In his dual roles, Balakrishna wears three distinct looks. He dons both an older and a younger look for the role of Veera Simha Reddy. In his role as an older Simha Reddy, he excels. A stirring effect is produced by his dialogues. Even though Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar is given another substantial part, her character’s development is rushed.

Songs are the only reason Shruti Haasan appears on screen. Her comedy stint is awkward to watch. Honey Rose seems fit for her role well. As an antagonist, Duniya Vijay fails to impress.

Among the technicians, Thaman gives his best with his score in the background. But the songs are just okay. Both the cinematography and production values are high. Sai Madhav Burra’s dialogue is spotty: it works well occasionally but feels formulaic most of the time.

Gopichand Malineni, the film’s director, proves his mettle in a few key areas, but the film overall suffered from a formulaic script.

Bottom-line: ‘Veera Simha Reddy’ is made for the die-hard fans of Balakrishna. Loaded with political dialogues and the show of Balakrishna’s swag, the first half makes a decent watch. But the second half turns too formulaic. It is for the ‘Jai Balayya’ crowd.

Veera Simha Reddy Movie Review: నటసింహ నందమూరి బాలకృష్ణ ‘అఖండ’తో తెలుగు సినిమాకు మళ్ళీ ఓ వెలుగు తీసుకు వచ్చారు. ఆ తరువాత బాలకృష్ణ నటించిన ఏ చిత్రమూ గత యేడాది విడుదల కాలేదు. దాంతో బాలయ్య అభిమానులు ఆయన సినిమా కోసం అమితాసక్తితో ఎదురుచూస్తున్న సమయంలోనే సంక్రాంతి కానుకగా ‘వీరసింహారెడ్డి’ చిత్రం జనం ముందు నిలచింది. గురువారం విడుదలయిన ‘వీరసింహారెడ్డి’లో బాలకృష్ణకు బాగా అచ్చివచ్చిన ఫ్యాక్షన్ డ్రామా, ఫ్యామిలీ సెంటిమెంట్ కలగలసి ఉండడం విశేషం! పైగా బాలకృష్ణ సినిమా టైటిల్స్ లో ‘సింహా’ అన్న పదం చోటు చేసుకుంటే సూపర్ హిట్ ఖాయం అనే నమ్మకం ఉండడంతో ఈ సినిమాపై భారీ అంచనాలు నెలకొన్నాయి. అందుకు తగ్గ రీతిలో సినిమా సాగిందో లేదో చూద్దాం.

‘వీరసింహారెడ్డి’ కథ విషయానికి వస్తే – ఇది అన్నాచెల్లెళ్ళ మధ్య వైరంతో సాగే కథ. వీరసింహారెడ్డి, భానుమతి ఇద్దరూ ఒకే తండ్రి పిల్లలు. అయితే తల్లులు వేరు. అయినా వీరసింహారెడ్డికి చెల్లెలు అంటే ఎంతో అభిమానం. కానీ, ఆ చెల్లెలు మాత్రం ఈ అన్నయ్యను సదా ద్వేషిస్తూనే ఉంటుంది. అందుకు కారణం, ఆమె ప్రేమించినవాడిని వీరసింహారెడ్డి చంపించాడని భానుమతి నమ్మకం. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో అన్నపై పగ సాధించడానికి భానుమతి ఆయనకు వైరి అయిన ప్రతాప్ రెడ్డి అనే వ్యక్తిని పెళ్ళాడుతుంది. అయినా, చెల్లెలుకు ప్రతి సంవత్సరం పండుగ రోజుల్లో పంపవలసిన సారె, చీరె పంపుతూనే ఉంటాడు వీరసింహారెడ్డి. తరువాత కొన్ని కారణాల వల్ల వీరసింహారెడ్డి విదేశాలకు వెళతాడు. రాయలసీమలో అందరూ దేవుడుగా భావించే వీరసింహారెడ్డిని ఇక్కడ మట్టుపెట్టడం కష్టమని భావించిన భానుమతి, విదేశాలలో అయితే తన పని సులువు అవుతుందని భావిస్తుంది. ఓ పథకం ప్రకారం వీరసింహారెడ్డిని విదేశాలలో ఉండగానే పొడిచేస్తారు. భానుమతి సైతం అతడిని కత్తి పొడిచి, తన కక్ష తీర్చుకున్నానని సంతోషిస్తుంది. భానుమతి అంతటితో పగ తీరినట్టేనా? వీరసింహారెడ్డి ప్రేమాభిమానాలను చెల్లెలు గుర్తించిందా? ఆ తరువాత ఏమైంది? అన్న అంశాలతో మిగతా కథ సాగుతుంది.

నిస్సందేహంగా నటీనటుల్లో బాలకృష్ణదే అగ్రంతాంబూలం. ఫ్యాక్షనిజం నేపథ్యమున్న కథల్లో నటించి అలరించడం ఆయనకు కొట్టిన పిండి. అదే తీరున వీరసింహారెడ్డిగా, ఆయన కొడుకుగా బాలకృష్ణ ద్విపాత్రాభినయంతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. వీరసింహారెడ్డి చెల్లెలు భానుమతి పాత్రలో వరలక్ష్మీ శరత్ కుమార్ తనదైన బాణీ పలికించారు. శ్రుతిహాసన్ గ్లామర్ తో పాటు అనువైన చోట తన నటనతో అలరించారు. హనీ రోజ్ అభినయం తప్పకుండా జనాన్ని కట్టిపడేస్తుంది. దర్శకుడు మలినేని గోపీచంద్ తనకు లభించిన అవకాశాన్ని వినియోగించుకొనే ప్రయత్నమే చేశారు. గోపీచంద్ కథకు అనువుగా బుర్రా సాయిమాధవ్ పలికించిన సంభాషణలూ ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. టాలీవుడ్ టాప్ స్టార్స్ తోనూ, యంగ్ హీరోస్ తోనూ వరుసగా చిత్రాలు నిర్మిస్తున్న మైత్రీ మూవీస్ అధినేతలు నవీన్ యెర్నేని, వై.రవిశంకర్ కథకు తగ్గరీతిలో ఖర్చుపెట్టారు. థమన్ బాణీల్లో రూపొందిన “జై బాలయ్యా…” అంటూ సాగే పాట అభిమానులను అలరిస్తుంది. మిగిలిన వాటిలో “సుగుణసుందరీ…”, “మా బావ మనో భావాలు…”, “మాస్ మొగుడు…” అనే పాటలూ మాస్ ను ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. సింగిల్ కార్డ్ తో రామజోగయ్య శాస్త్రి తనదైన రీతిలో పదబంధాలు ప్రయోగించి ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. రిషి పంజాబీ సినిమాటోగ్రఫి కూడా కథకు తగ్గ రీతిలో సాగిందని చెప్పవచ్చు.

వీర సింహా రెడ్డి (సీనియర్ బాలయ్య) రాయలసీమకి దేవుడు లాంటి మనిషి. పులిచర్ల ప్రాంతానికి అండగా నిలబడుతూ.. సీమ మంచి కోసం అనుక్షణం తప్పిస్తూ ఉంటాడు. అయితే, వీర సింహారెడ్డికి సవతి చెల్లి భానుమతి (వరలక్ష్మి శరత్ కుమార్) అంటే ప్రాణం. ఆమె కోసం తన జీవితాన్నే త్యాగం చేస్తాడు. కానీ భానుమతి మాత్రం వీర సింహారెడ్డి చావు కోసం ముప్పై ఏళ్లుగా ఎదురు చూస్తూ ఉంటుంది. మరోవైపు.. ఇస్తాంబుల్‌లో జయసింహా రెడ్డి (జూనియర్ బాలయ్య) తన తల్లి మీనాక్షి (హనీ రోజ్)తో లైఫ్ లీడ్ చేస్తూ ఉంటాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో జరిగిన కొన్ని నాటకీయ పరిణామాల నేపథ్యంలో ఈషా (శ్రుతి హాసన్‌)తో జయసింహా ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. ఆమెను పెళ్లి చేసుకోవాలని నిర్ణయించుకుంటాడు. ఆ సమయంలో జయసింహాకి తన తండ్రి వీర సింహారెడ్డి గురించి తెలుస్తోంది. అసలు తండ్రి కొడుకులు ఎందుకు దూరం అయ్యారు ?, ప్రాణంగా ప్రేమిస్తే.. చెల్లి మీనాక్షి, వీరసింహా రెడ్డిని ఎందుకు చంపాలి అనుకుంటుంది?, చివరకు వీర సింహారెడ్డి కథ ఎలా ముగుస్తుంది ?, జయసింహా రెడ్డి తన తండ్రి కోసం ఏం చేశాడు ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

వీర సింహారెడ్డిగా, జయసింహా రెడ్డిగా రెండు పాత్రల్లో నటించిన బాలయ్య బాబు ఎప్పటిలాగే తన నటనతో తన మాస్ యాక్టింగ్ తో ఈ సినిమాలో ఉత్తమమైన నటనను కనబర్చారు. ముఖ్యంగా ఇంటర్వెల్ లాంటి కొన్ని ఎమోషనల్ అండ్ యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాల్లో అలాగే క్లైమాక్స్ లో తీవ్రమైన భావోద్వేగాలను పండించిన బాలయ్య నటన సినిమాకే హైలెట్ గా నిలుస్తోంది. హీరోయిన్ గా నటించిన శ్రుతి హాసన్ తన గ్లామర్ తో తన పాత్రకు న్యాయం చేసింది.

హనీ రోజ్ నటన చాలా బాగుంది. ఆమె మంచి నటి అని ఈ సినిమా నిరూపించింది. అలాగే వరలక్ష్మి శరత్ కుమార్ తన నటనతో కీలకమైన తన పాత్రకు పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశారు. ముఖ్యంగా సెకండ్ హాఫ్ లో వచ్చే ఓ ముఖ్యమైన సీన్ లో ఆమె నటన చాలా బాగా ఆకట్టుకుంది. ఇక ఈ సినిమాలో విలన్ పాత్రలో నటించిన దునియా విజయ్ తన వైల్డ్ నటనతో మెప్పించాడు. ముఖ్యంగా తన నిజ స్వరూపం గురించి వరలక్ష్మి శరత్ కుమార్ కు చెప్పే సన్నివేశంలో దునియా విజయ్ నటన చాలా బాగుంది.

మరో కీలక పాత్రలో నటించిన నవీన్ చంద్ర కూడా ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. అలాగే మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్రల పరిధి మేరకు బాగానే చేశారు. మొత్తమ్మీద బాలయ్య మాస్ ప్రేక్షకులకు ఫుల్ కిక్ ఇచ్చాడు. బాలయ్య డ్యాన్స్ కూడా అదిరిపోయింది.

గోపీచంద్ మలినేని మంచి మాస్ థీమ్ తీసుకున్నప్పటికీ.. స్లో నేరేషన్ తో, కొన్ని చోట్ల ఈ పవర్ ఫుల్ మాస్ డ్రామాను పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకునే విధంగా మలచలేకపోయారు. అయితే కొన్ని యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలతో దర్శకుడు ఆకట్టకునే ప్రయత్నం చేసినప్పటికీ.. సినిమాలో కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాలు పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకోవు.

ఇక కంటెంట్ మరియు ఆర్టిస్ట్ ల పరంగా చూసుకుంటే సినిమా మీద ప్రేక్షకుడికి పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఇంట్రస్ట్ పుట్టించే స్కోప్ ఉన్నపటికీ దర్శకుడు మలినేని గోపీచంద్ ఆ ఎలిమెంట్స్ ను వదిలేసి అనవసరమైన సన్నివేశాలతో సినిమా రేంజ్ ను కొంత తగ్గించాడు. మొత్తానికి సినిమా నిండా యాక్షన్ ఉన్నా.. ప్రేక్షకుడు ఇన్ వాల్వ్ అయ్యే విధంగా మాత్రం, ఆ యాక్షన్ ఉపయోగపడలేదు. అలాగే, కథలోని మెయిన్ ఎమోషన్ కూడా సరిగ్గా ఎలివేట్ కాలేదు.

ఇక సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటే.. దర్శకుడు గోపీచంద్ మలినేని టేకింగ్ మాత్రం బాగుంది. అయితే, ఆయన రాసిన స్క్రీన్ ప్లే కొన్ని చోట్ల బాగాలేదు. సంగీత దర్శకుడు థమన్ ఎస్ అందించిన సంగీతం పర్వాలేదు. ఐతే బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ మాత్రం కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో అక్కట్టుకునేలా ఉంది. రిషి పంజాబీ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ వర్క్ చాలా బాగుంది. ఇక ఎడిటర్ నవీన్ నూలి ఎడిటింగ్ వర్క్ కూడా పర్వాలేదు. నిర్మాతలు నవీన్ యెర్నేని, రవిశంకర్ పాటించిన నిర్మాణ విలువలు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

వీర సింహారెడ్డి అంటూ వచ్చిన ఈ పవర్ ఫుల్ మాస్ అండ్ యాక్షన్ డ్రామా బాగానే ఆకట్టుకుంది. నటసింహం బాలయ్య తన నటనతో సినిమా స్థాయిని పెంచారు. శ్రుతి హాసన్, దునియా విజయ్, వరలక్ష్మి శరత్ కుమార్, హనీ రోజ్ ఈ సినిమాకి ప్లస్ అయ్యారు. కానీ, కొన్ని చోట్ల స్లో నేరేషన్, బోరింగ్ సీన్స్ వంటి అంశాలు సినిమాకి మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ పవర్ ఫుల్ యాక్షన్ డ్రామాలో యాక్షన్ అండ్ కొన్ని ఎమోషనల్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ మాత్రం బాగా ఆకట్టుకున్నాయి. బాలయ్య ఫ్యాన్స్ కి ఈ సినిమా ఫుల్ మాస్ మీల్స్ లాంటిది.

Balakrishna’s earlier films such as Simha and Legend, despite using the same beats, attempted to offer something new. But Veera Simha Reddy doesn’t.

Given that the film is right on time for Sankranthi, some of the dialogues might not exactly make it a family-friendly watch. But if you’re a Balakrishna fan, this one’s for you.

Sankranti festival for Telugu Cinema begins with Veera Simha Reddy. Nandamuri Balakrishna is on the rage with Akhanda’s blockbuster success and Unstoppable show. He collaborated with Gopichandh Malineni for a pakka mass potboiler that has all ingredients to satiate his die-hard fans. The trailer of Veera Simha Reddy set the festive mood. This Sankranthi began with Balayya. Let’s find out what this film is up to.

What Is It About? 

Jai (Balakrishna) and his mother Meenakshi (Honeyrose) live in Turkey. Jai and Sandhya (Shruti Haasan) fall in love with each other. Meenakshi reveals Jai for the first time about his father Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna). Veera Simha has a past and it will haunt him in Istanbul also. Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) and his wife Banumati (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) want to kill Veera Simha Reddy. What is their grudge and will they succeed? The answers to these form the story. 

Performances

Balayya entices fans as Veera Simha Reddy. From his attire in black to his mannerisms with desi cigars, Balayya matches perfectly for Veera Simha Reddy’s role. He excels in dialogues and fights in a pure mass avatar for Veera Simha Reddy. The second Balakrishna as Jai’s role is half-baked and lacks a stand. Though the character has a limited screen space, it looks aimless mostly. 

Shruti Haasan is strictly restricted to songs and very few scenes. Honey Rose gets an important role and she did fine.  Duniya Vijay gets a lengthy role as the main villain in the movie. He fails as the villain opposite Balayya.

Duniya Vijay’s character looks weak and remains one of the strong drawbacks in the film. His routine consists of attacking, getting beaten, rinsing, and repeating. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar appears in a crucial role. She did alright. Though her role is intense, the emotional disconnect in the second half impacted her role. 

Technicalities

Visuals and fights are on par with Balayya’s recent successful films. But the story and the making are where the movie dips down. A few elevation scenes and some intense dialogues worked very well. The ‘Pub’ dialogue and the ‘Pogaru in DNA’ dialogues along with others had whistles in theaters. Background music is loud and only impressive in certain parts. All the songs are pure mass.Maa Baava Manobhaavalu is sure a treat for mass loving audience. The lengthy run time is a big culprit. Editing could have been better.

Routine Story Weak Villain Poor Second Half

Veera Simha Reddy is all about a factionist who wants to be the last one of them. While the stories of the faction itself are dated, the director should have had a strong base for his story. Unfortunately, he did not. 

Veera Simha Reddy has an inactive first half an hour with the boring track of Shruti Haasan and poor comedy. The movie’s actual story kicks off with Veera Simha Reddy’s introduction. The first half does well with heroism, elevation, and some intense dialogues. Though the flow is predictable, the first half of the movie runs by Veera Simha Reddy’s character alone. Veera Simha Reddy visiting the Home Minister’s meeting is a good scene to watch. The interval scene is an emotional one leaving the first half on a decent note. 

The second half turns rather slow and sluggish with a routine story unveiled in a dragged mode. There are many routine challenges and counter challenges in the vintage seema backdrop. The emotion in the cringy second half is hard to connect with. There are one too many fights in the movie that might entice fans. The flashback episodes in the latter part are too lengthy and anything that is left apart from it is songs and flights again. The main drawback of the film is the lack of emotional connection. 

The second half slowly turns into a patience tester with the flashback scenes and Jai taking up the place of Veera Simha Reddy. The director who elevated Veera Simha Reddy with many dialogues failed to put up at least half of it for Jai’s character, which in the end becomes clueless. The pre-climax episodes of Varalaxmi work well, but they could not repair the damage done by the flashback. 

Veera Simha Reddy has everything that Balayya’s previous hit films had, except the well-written story and the direction. The director tried to mimic Balayya’s blockbuster films directed by Boyapati Srinu, by recreating the homam scenes, references of ugranarasimham, and the intense blood bath. But what he could bring is just them but not the actual emotion, thrill and the originality.

Having said that, Veera Simha Reddy is an old routine story with a predictable flow. Overall, Veera Simha Reddy is an average movie that is strictly for fans and the movie could work well in B and C centers given the festival season.

Bottomline: Narukudu – Urukudu

Veera Simha Reddy First Review: Nandamuri Balakrishna's Mass Action Film Assures A Big Feast To Fans

Tollywood veteran Nandamuri Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy is set to roar on the silver screen under the direction of Gopichand Malineni. Touted to be an out-and-out action entertainer, the movie stars Shruti Haasan in the female lead's role. The movie is going to hit the screens on January 12, worldwide.

Just a couple of days before the grand release, social media is abuzz with the NBK mania and fans are in celebratory mode. In addition to the mania around the most awaited Sankranthi release, the first reviews, and advance booking records of Veera Simha Reddy are surprisingly high and positive.

According to several tweets containing information about Veera Simha Reddy, the movie is quite engaging and lays out a space for an emotional drama to catch up with the viewers. The conflict between Veera Simha Reddy and the character portrayed by Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is said to be the biggest attraction of the film.

Also, Veera Simha Reddy is said to be a regular film with a routine story and screenplay but is very engaging. Balakrishna shouldered the movie entirely and the scenes with the antagonist's role played by Kannada actor Duniya Vijay came out exceptionally.

The movie also contained mass elements like dance and dialogue to enthrall the fans. The chemistry between Balakrishna and Shruti Haasan in songs was unmissable and the locations around Turkey were showcased stylishly, reportedly. However, the most important element of the film, the climax was extraordinary, opined several self-acclaimed film critics on Twitter, about Veera Simha Reddy.

The movie stars Honey Rose, Lal, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Naveen Chandra, P Ravi Shankar, Ajay Ghosh, Murali Sharma, Chandrika Ravi, and Sapthagiri among others in crucial roles.

The film's cinematography was handled by Rishi Punjabi and Naveen Nooli edited it. Sensational music composer S Thaman scored the entire soundtrack for the film produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the Mythri Movie Makers banner.

“అఖండ” విజయం తర్వాత “అన్ స్టాపబుల్” తో వచ్చిన క్రేజుతో పండగ సీజన్లో బాలకృష్ణ “వీర సింహా రెడ్డి” తో వచ్చాడు. అలాగే “క్రాక్” విజయం తర్వాత గోపీచంద్ మలినేని దర్శకత్వంలో వచ్చిన చిత్రం ఇదే. కనుక అంచనాలు సహజంగానే ఎక్కువగా ఉంటాయి. దానికి తోడు ట్రైలర్ బాగుండడంతో ఈ పండక్కి ఫుల్ డోస్ వినోదాన్ని అందించగలిగే చిత్రంగా నిలబడుతుందని ఆశలూ చిగురించాయి. 

తెర మీద టైటిల్స్ పడుతుండగా తొలి సీన్ మొదలవుతుంది. బాలకృష్ణ సినిమా అనగానే గుర్తురావల్సింది బోయపాటి మాత్రమే కాదు, తన పేరు కూడా వినపడాలి అనేంత శ్రద్ధగా ఆ తొలి సీన్ ని తెరకెక్కించాడు గోపీచంద్ మలినేని. ఓపెనింగ్ గ్రిప్పింగ్ గా ఉండడంతో సినిమా మొత్తం అలాగే ఉంటుందన్న నమ్మకం కలుగుతుంది. అయితే మలి సీన్ నుంచి ఆ నమ్మకాన్ని తుడిచేయడం మొదలుపెట్టాడు. 

ఇంతకీ విషయమేంటంటే..టర్కీలోని ఇస్తాంబుల్ లో మీనాక్షి (హనీ రోజ్) తన కొడుకు జయ సింహా రెడ్డితో (బాలకృష్ణ) ఉంటూ రాగి సంకటి కోడి కూర వండి పెట్టే ఒక రెస్టారెంట్ నడుపుకుంటూ ఉంటుంది.

ఇక్కడ సీన్లో తల్లిగా కనిపించే హనీరోజ్ ముఖం మీద ముడతలుండవు కానీ కొడుకుగా కనిపించే బాలకృష్ణకి మాత్రం కళ్ల కింద క్యారీబ్యాగులు, మెడ కింద ముడతలు కొట్టొచ్చినట్టు కనిపిస్తుంటాయి. కనీసం గ్రాఫిక్స్ లో అయినా ఆ ముడతల్ని, క్యారీ బ్యాగుల్ని కవర్ చేసి ఉంటే చూసే వాళ్లకి వాళ్లు తల్లీకొడుకులు అనిపించేవాళ్లు. అభివృద్ధి చెందిన టెక్నాలజీని వాడుకోవడం కూడా తెలియాలి. 

ఇంతకీ ఈ బాలకృష్ణ లోకల్ గా ఉన్న ఒక అమ్మాయిని (శ్రుతి హాసన్) ఇష్టపడతాడు. ఆ జంటకి సంబంధం మాట్లాడి పెళ్లి చేసేందుకు పులిచర్లలో ఉన్న వీరసింహా రెడ్డిని (పెద్ద బాలకృష్ణ) పిలుస్తుంది. ఈ ముగ్గురితో పాటూ వీర సింహా రెడ్డి చెల్లెలు భానుమతి (వరలక్ష్మి), ఆమె భర్త ప్రతాప్ రెడ్డి (దునియా విజయ్) లతో ముడిపడి ఉన్న రివెంజ్ డ్రామా ఈ చిత్రం. పాత్రల పరిచయమే తప్ప కథ వివరాల్లోకి వెళ్లట్లేదు. 

ఈ పాత్రలతో బాలకృష్ణకి ఒక కథ రాయమంటే ఇన్నాళ్లూ సినిమాలు చూసిన అనుభవంతో ఒక కథ రాసేయడం కష్టం కాదు. ఈ చిత్ర బృందం కూడా అదే పని చేసింది. ఇద్దరు బాలకృష్ణలు..ఒకర్ని రివీల్ చేసి రెండవ క్యారెక్టర్ ని ఏ ఇంటర్వల్ ముందో రివీల్ చేయడం, ఒక ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్, పగ, ప్రతీకారం…ఈ దినుసులన్నీ దంచి కొట్టి మసాల నూరితే కథైపోతుంది. అంతా రొటీనే అయినా బాలకృష్ణ చెల్లెలు వరలక్ష్మి ట్రాక్ మాత్రం కొత్తగా రాసుకున్నాడు. ఆ ఒక్కటీ మెచ్చుకోవచ్చు. తక్కినదంతా రసం లేని పిప్పి మాత్రమే. 

ఇంతకీ పైన మలి సీన్ నుంచి నమ్మకం తుడిపేసాడని చెప్పుకుంటున్నాం కదా! అదే ఇస్తాన్ బుల్ లో చిన్న బాలకృష్ణ ట్రాక్. అక్కడ సీన్ మొదలైనప్పటి నుంచి ఏదో తెడా కొడుతున్న ఫీలింగ్ మొదలౌతుంది. శ్రుతి హాసన్ పాత్ర ఎంటరవగానే చిరాకు స్టార్ట్ అవుతుంది. “వాయిస్ ఆఫ్ యూరప్” అనే ప్రోగ్రాములో ఎఫ్3 లో మెహ్రీన్ మాదిరిగా అపశ్రుతిలో పాట పాడుతూ శ్రుతి క్యారెక్టర్ ఇంట్రడ్యూస్ అవుతుంది. ఆ కార్యక్రమానికి జడ్జిలు బ్రహ్మానందం, ఆలి. ఇంత సెటప్పున్నా ఒక్క నవ్వు కూడా తెప్పించకుండా విసుగు తెప్పించేలా ఆ సీన్, డైలాగ్ రాసుకోవడం ఈ దర్శక రచయితలకే చెల్లింది. శ్రుతి చేత గట్టిగా అరిపిస్తూ, సప్తగిరితో ఏదో నవ్వురాని పిచ్చి కామెడీ వగైరాలు చేయించారు. ఈ సన్నివేశాలు పెట్టిన చిరాకు వల్ల ఆమె కారు షెడ్డులో అద్భుతమైన నాట్యప్రతిభని చూపించినా కూడా ఆస్వాదించలేని పరిస్థితి ప్రేక్షకులది. కథనం గాడి తప్పి ఎటో పోతున్న ఫీలింగ్ పెరుగుతూ ఉంటుంది క్రమంగా. 

వీటికి తోడు బుర్రతక్కువ డైలాగ్స్ కూడా తోడయ్యాయి. చిన్న బాలయ్య టర్కీలో ఒక ఫైట్ చేస్తాడు. 

ఆ ఫైట్లో ఒకడిని కొట్టగానే “వావ్ వాటే పంచ్ పవర్” అంటుంది అక్కడున్న ఒక ఫారినర్. దానికి సమాధానంగా బాలయ్య “దిస్ ఈజ్ ది పవర్ ఆఫ్ రాగిసంకటి అండ్ నాటు కోడి పులుసు” అని చెప్తాడు.

“కల్చర్ లేదనుకున్నా..గన్ కల్చర్ ఉందా” లాంటి పసలేని బలవంతపు లైన్లు కూడా బలం లేని సన్నివేశాలని మరింత బలహీనపరిచేలా ఉన్నాయి. 

“సంతకాలు పెడితే బోర్డు మీద పేరు మారుతుందేమో. కానీ చరిత్ర సృష్టించిన వాడి పేరు మారదు..” అనే డైలాగ్ బలవంతంగా రాజకీయవివాదం కోసం పెట్టిందే తప్ప అసలు కథలో అవసరమే లేదు, పొసగలేదు కూడా. 

అలాగే హోం మినిస్టర్ తో సీన్ కూడా. ఈ తెదేపా సానుకూల డైలాగ్స్ రాజకీయాలు ఫాలో అయ్యే ఒక వర్గం ప్రేక్షకులకి నచ్చచ్చేమో తప్ప మిగిలిన వాళ్లు డాట్స్ కనెక్ట్ చేసుకోలేక ఇబ్బంది పడాలి. 

“నీకు పదవి చూసుకుని పొగరేమో..బై బర్త్ నా డి.ఎన్.ఎ కే పొగరెక్కువ” అనే డైలాగుంది. డి.ఎన్.ఎ అంటే తలకాయలు నరకడమా? తెర మీద పాత్ర చేసే పని అదే మరి. 

“ముండ”, “ముండమోపి”, “కొడక” అంటూ సి-గ్రేడ్ డైలాగ్స్ ఆద్యంతం వినిపిస్తాయి. 

అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకులు కొన్న టికెట్ కి పూర్తిగా న్యాయం చేయడం సినిమా కానీ, అభిమానులకి పంచ్ డైలాగులు బిచ్చమేయడం కాదని రచయిత తెలుసుకోవాలి. తెలుగు చిత్రపరిశ్రమకి ఉన్న విలువని కాపాడుకోవాలి కానీ ఉన్న పరిశ్రమ పరువుని సి-గ్రేడ్ భావజాలంతో పోగొట్టడం కాదని కూడా అర్ధం చేసుకోవాలి. హీరోగారి పార్టీకి పదవి లేదన్న బాధతో చేతికొచ్చినట్టు రాయకుండా కథ మీద చిత్తశుద్ధిని డి.ఎన్.ఎ లో పెట్టుకుని రాయాలి. 

ఈ సినిమాలో మంచి ఏదైనా ఉంటే అది కెమెరా వర్క్, బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ మ్యూజిక్. ఈ రెండు విభాగాలు బెస్ట్ అనిపించేలా పని చేసాయి. పాటలు పర్వాలేదు. 

కానీ ఎడిటింగ్ మాత్రం సహనపరీక్ష పెట్టింది. విపరీతమైన డ్రాగ్ ఉన్న ద్వితీయార్ధం ప్రేక్షకుల నెత్తిమీద గుదిబండలా మారింది. 

ఫైట్ మాస్టర్లకి సినిమా అప్పజెప్పేసి దర్శకుడు రిలాక్సైపోయాడా అనేంత రేంజులో ఉన్నాయి ఇందులోని ఫైట్స్. తెర మొత్తం రక్తంతో తడిసిపోయింది. చేతులు, తలలు గొడ్డలి దెబ్బలకి తెగి రక్తం చిమ్ముకుంటూ గాలిలో ఎగురుతూనే ఉంటాయి. 

ఈ రక్తపాతం రాయలసీమ సీన్స్లోనే కాకుండా ఇస్తాన్ బుల్ లో కూడా పెట్టారు. అసలంత మంది రాయలసీమ హంతకులు వేట కొడవళ్ళు పట్టుకుని ఆ దేశం వెళ్లడమేంటో, టర్కీ రోడ్ల మీద పరుగెత్తుకుంటూ చేతులు, తలలు నరుక్కోవడమేంటో అర్ధం కాదు. అసలా ఆయుధాలు వీళ్లు ఫ్లైటెక్కేటప్పుడు చెకిన్ లో వేసారా, లేక క్యాబిన్ బ్యాగేజులో తెచ్చుకున్నారా లాంటి డౌట్లు బేసిక్ కామన్ సెన్స్ ఉన్న ప్రేక్షకులకి కలుగుతాయి. బహుశా ఆ సెన్స్ బాలకృష్ణ సినిమాలు చూసేవాళ్లకి ఉండదని, ఉన్నా పనిచెయ్యదని మలినేనికి బలమైన నమ్మకమేమో. 

నటనపరంగా బాలకృష్ణ ఎప్పటిలాగా తనదైన పద్ధతిలో చేసాడు. మనోభావాలు పాటలో స్టెప్స్ కూడా ఎనెర్జెటిక్ గా బాగున్నాయి.  

శ్రుతి హాసన్ ని మాత్రం ఆటలో అరటిపండుని చేసేసారు. మరోసారి తెలుగు సినిమా అంటే ఆమె మొత్తం స్క్రిప్ట్ తెప్పించుకుని తన పాత్ర ఏవిటో తెలుసుకుంటే తప్ప మాట్లాడదేమో. 

దునియా విజయ్ చాలా రఫ్ గా కనిపించాడు. వరలక్ష్మి వేరియేషన్స్ ఉన్న పాత్రలో మెప్పించింది. 

అభిమానులకి కూడా ఏవరేజ్ అనిపించే సినిమా ఇది. కానీ సత్యం చెప్పడానికి మనస్కరించక అద్భుతమని చెప్పుకోవచ్చు. రక్తపాతం, తలలు నరుక్కోవడం, గట్టిగా అరుచుకోవడం నచ్చి బాలకృష్ణ మీద వీరాభిమానం ఉంటే ఈ సినిమా చూడొచ్చు. లేకపోతే ఒకసారి ఆలోచించుకోవచ్చు.

After the stunning success of “Akhanda” and the popularity of talk show “Unstoppable” brought new craze to Balakrishna’s movies. And teaming up with director Gopichand Malineni, who just delivered the blockbuster “Krack”, raised high expectations. “Veera Simha Reddy” is also the first biggie to hit the theaters in 2023. Amidst high expectations, the film is here.

Let’s find out its merits and demerits.

Story: For their son's upcoming wedding in Turkey, Meenakshi (Honey Rose) has invited Veera Simha Reddy (Nandamuri Balakrishna), who currently resides in Rayalaseema, India. Their son Jai (Balakrishna) is in love with Eesha (Shruti Haasan). Why does Veera Simha Reddy reside in India and Meenakshi and her son in Turkey?

Meenakshi begins to explain the circumstances that brought them to Turkey many years ago.

An amiable faction leader named Veera Simha Reddy wields the most influence in Kurnool. His step-sister Bhanumathi (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar) is his one and only vulnerable point.

Bhanumathi misunderstands her brother's actions in a crucial situation and comes to the conclusion that he has betrayed her. Furious at her brother, she marries Veera Simha Reddy's rival Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) and sets out to exact her revenge. What caused the sibling rift, and what will Jai do after hearing his dad's backstory?

Artistes’ Performances: Nandamuri Balakrishna has portrayed two distinct characters. Veera Simha Reddy's portrayal brings to mind his previous film roles. Balakrishna's dialogue delivery is, as always, fierce. In the first half, his costume is a rip-off of Sivanna's "Mufti." That said, he looks terrific in it.

After Balakrishna, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar plays a pivotal role in the film. During the interval bang, she does an admirable job. Her sentiment scenes, however, fall flat. 

Shruti Haasan gets a bad treatment. Her role and her performance are both embarrassingly bad.

Honey Rose is given a slightly better role than Shruti Haasan. In his first Telugu film, Duniya Vijay plays a one-dimensional bad guy.

Technical Excellence: The music of Thaman is unremarkable. The songs may have gone viral on social media, but they don't work at all in the movie. But his background score is good, so that's a plus. This film's cinematography is stunning. The production values are very high because the producers have invested a lot of money.

Sai Madhav's dialogues follow a predictable pattern. Words like "Kodaka" and "Naa Kodaka" can be heard at many places. The length of the film is too long. It features 8 lengthy fight sequences

Analysis Despite being a formulaic actioner, the spiritual undertones of "Akhanda" helped it succeed at the box office. Balayya's performance as Akhanda resonated with a wide audience thanks in large part to the film's "Bhakti" angle. The film's success was apparently viewed in a different light by director Gopichand Malineni. His latest film, "Veera Simha Reddy," starring Balakrishna, follows the template of heavy dose of action sequences.

The number of fights is very high. There are indeed eight large-scale action scenes. 

Though the film's first fifteen minutes are dull due to the introduction of Jai and Eesha and their budding romance, things pick up once "Veera Simha Reddy" arrives.

Balakrishna, in typical fashion, roars through the first half, delivering punch lines and beating up bad guys. Some dialogues are designed to gain political traction. Balakrishna takes aim at the current government in Andhra Pradesh in a scene where the hero has an argument with the minister of home affairs.

The first half of the film, however, is structured similarly to other commercially successful films, complete with songs and fight scenes. The twist involving Balakrisha and Varalakshmi at the midpoint bang is also interesting. The twist makes us wait for the second part. However, the second half completely loses its grip. A sister-brother drama ensues, and more fights follow.

Everything involving Balakrishna and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar seems to go on forever. On top of that, there are far too many loopholes. It's hilarious to see Varalaxmi misunderstand his brother and swear vengeance without bothering to get to the bottom of the situation. Another cringe-worthy moment is when she married her brother's rival. It appears to be a story convenience rather than organic. And Duniya Vijay's villainy lacks effectiveness due to the poor writing. So, the second half turns out to be a combination of action-stunts fest and poor sentiment scenes.

The politically charged lines of dialogue may win over supporters of the Telugu Desam party and Balayya's fans, but they come off sounding artificial and out of place to everyone else. And for how much longer will Balakrishna brag about his dad and his 'charitra' (history) without regard to the story's arc?

How did the censors let scenes like Balakrishna calling the bad guy "Munda" through?  Burra Sai Madhav's banal prose filled with words like “Kodaka” should have been censored.

The heroines' portrayals are just as bad as the pointless fighting. After the first 15 minutes, Shruti Haasan only re-appears when there are musical interludes. Honey Rose is revealed to be an elderly mother, but she is then given the opportunity to dance to the "Maa Baava Manobhavalu '' song and seduce Balayya.

Overall, "Veera Simha Reddy" is another mindless masala drama with a lot of fights. While the first half of the film is entertaining, the second half is disastrous. The film is only for die-hard fans of Balayya, not for the regular audiences.

Story:  Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) is a god like man for Rayalaseema people. He sacrifices his life for step-sister Bhanumathi (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar). But Bhanumati has been waiting for Veera Simha Reddy’s death for thirty years. On the other hand, Jayasimha Reddy (Jr.  Balakrishna) is leading a life with his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) in Istanbul. Jayasimha falls in love with Esha (Shruti Haasan) and decides to marry her. At that time, Jayasimha comes to know about his father Veera Simha Reddy. Why did the original father and son get separated?, Why does sister Meenakshi want to kill Veera Simha Reddy?, What did Jayasimha Reddy do for his father? To get  these answers, one should watch the movie on silver screen.

 Performance:  Nandmauri Balakrishna who plays two roles as Veera Simha Reddy and Jayasimha Reddy, as usual, gives his best performance. Especially in some emotional and action scenes like the interval, as well as in the climax, Balakrishna’ acting is the highlighted. His dance is also amazing. Shruti Haasan  who is playing the female lead, does justice to her role with her glamour. Honey Rose’s performance is very good. Seeing Honey Rose essaying  mother to Jai (Balakrishna), the odd pairing is sticking up like a sore thumb. Even though her makeup suggested that she’s old enough to be a mother, it did not  add any novelty. Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar has done full justice to her pivotal role with her performance. Especially in an important scene in the second half, her performance is very impressive. And Duniya Vijay who plays the role of villain in this movie impresses with his fantastic performance. Naveen Chandra who plays another key role is  also impressive. Also the rest of the actors have done well in their roles.

 Technical:   The story of Veera Simha Reddy has nothing new to offer. We get the brother-sister sentiment and how revenge clouds one’s judgement. Veera Simha Reddy has some strong political dialogues, which brought a lot of cheer among the movie lovers.  Thaman’ BGM and songs are good. His music elevates the action blocks. Rishi Punjabi’s cinematography work is very good. Naveen Nooli’s editing work is also okay. The production values by producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar are very good.

 Analysis:  Veera Simha Reddy is a full mass meal for Balakrishna fans. Shruti Haasan, Duniya Vijay, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar and Honey Rose are pluses for this movie. But, at some places things like slow narration and boring scenes are the minus points. Overall, the action and some emotional elements in this powerful action drama are very impressive.

Natasimha Balakrishna is known to score blockbusters shaking the box office during Sankranti. He is coming to show his power and break box office records turning Veera Simha Reddy on 12 January 2023. Veera Simha Reddy's OTT rights have been bagged by Disney+Hotstar for a whopping amount and the streaming will be done after three months. Balakrishna's first look, powerful dialogues, and dances in the teasers and trailers became the talking point. The film is directed by Gopichand Malineni and let us find out how Balakrishna who stunned all with his previous entertainer Akhanda, entertained as Veera Simha Reddy.

Veera Simha Reddy : Story Review

Veera Simha Reddy's story is about the life of a father and son in Rayalaseema and how they deal with the faction and family rivalry and ensure the development of the people of the region. Jai Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) is the doting son of his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) who runs a restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey. He falls in love with a beautiful girl Eesha ( Shruti Haasan), the daughter of businessman Jayaram (Murali Sharma). On the verge of his marriage, he comes to know the secret about his father Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna). Why his mother hides his father's truth from him and what it got to do with Musali Madugu Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay), Bhanumati (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar), Shekar (Naveen Chandra), businessman Rajagopal (Sachin Khedekar) in Pulicharla, Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh form the rest of the story.

Veera Simha Reddy Movie : Artists Review

Balakrishna got the roles tailormade for him. Viewers have seen him in such roles earlier and for umpteen times. But Balakrishna for some reason decided to give the green signal to the project despite his roles being routine and also the story offered nothing new. He danced with full energy and performance stunts in a powerful manner. His dialogues, mannerisms, and screen presence is nothing new but he performed well.

Shruti Haasan played the female lead. She is gorgeous and gave ample beauty treat on screen in the songs. She competed with Balakrishna with mass moves. She got a silly role to the core and her dialogues are also comical. Honey Rose, a Malayalee actor who made her debut as Balakrishna's wife, performed well and she proved her acting talent. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar stole the show with stunning and powerful emotions. She made a stunning impact with her screen presence and she performed well during the pre-climax.

Duniya Vijay in his first Telugu film looked menacing on screen. He made his presence felt locking horns with Balakrishna. But for all the hype, his character turned into a caricature later. Chandrika Ravi sizzled in a special song and she entertained masses with her looks. Naveen Chandra played an important role. Brahmanandam, Ali,Sapthagiri,Sachin Khedekar,Ravishankar, Murali Sharma performed according to their roles.

Veera Simha Reddy : Technicians Review

The story of Veera Simha Reddy readied by director Gopichand Malineni offered nothing new. Younger Balakrishna is introduced highlighting his love for his mother in Istanbul. This set the stage to elevate the heroism of Balakrishna to another level. However, in order to introduce the heroine Shruti Haasan, the director pulled back and some silly scenes follow testing the patience of the viewers. Shruti Haasan's role looked dumb and silly. Gopichand Malineni concentrated on highlighting the beauty of Shruti Haasan rather than her character.

Gopichand Malineni spent most of the time concentrating on elevating the heroism of Balakrishna to another level and included many high-octane scenes featuring Balakrishna. The stunts are choreographed quite well but most of the time, Balakrishna is enacting similar types of stunts for the most part of the film. The first half ends in a routine and monotonous manner with predictable narration and people walk out to experience better second half with one interesting twist.

But the interval twist in the first half diluted the film's tempo and from then on the entire second half though loaded with emotions failed to take off to the next level. During the climax, intensity levels increase with the presence of Balakrishna and finally the film ends in a routine and monotonous way. Gopichand Malineni's story is extremely weak and he tried to make up for it with the heroic elevations of Balakrishna. The screenplay is outdated but silly most of the time and the direction left a lot to be desired.

Thaman's music for a few songs is foot-tapping and loaded with mass vibes. The songs are shot in a beautiful way and choreographed with mass moves. His background music is ok but most of the time it turned extremely loud. It however failed to give the desired impact. Rishi Punjabi's cinematography is natural and beautiful. He showed the Rayalaseema region in a realistic way and Turkey's locations in an aesthetic manner. Naveen Nooli's editing could have been far better. There are many routine scenes that affected the film and could have been done away with it. However, had he done so, most of the film's scenes would have been done away with. Dialogues penned by Sai Madhav Burra had few political vibes. The dialogues targeted the current political scenario. Except for those dialogues, most of the other dialogues are written in a convenient and haphazard manner and at times missed logic and failed to connect the dots, and did not justify the intensity and intent of the characters. Veera Simha Reddy Movie : Rating Analysis

Altogether, Expectations soared on Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy as he is coming after scoring a resounding hit with Akhanda and rewriting the records at the box office. Gopichand Malineni's direction left many craving for wholesome entertainment during Sankranti. However, Gopichand Malineni disappointed all with Veer Simha Reddy output as he did not work on the story. He just tried to elevate the heroism of Balakrishna in dual roles and it did not come with any twists. Everyone passes through the motions and Gopichand Malineni's screenplay failed to connect chords. It lacked a realistic feel and the entire film tested the patience of the viewers. The direction followed the same template and did not try any deviations. Overall, Veera Simha Reddy offered nothing new and instead offered routine product. People are left wondering why Balakrishna is doing such a routine mass masala entertainers continuously. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 Rating for Veera Simha Reddy .

Following the grand success of Akhanda, Nandamuri Balakrishna teamed up with director Gopichand Malineni for an out-and-out mass action entertainer, in the form of Veera Simha Reddy. The film features Shruti Haasan as the leading lady, and has been released today, on the occasion of the Sankranthi festival. Let’s see how the film has turned out to be..

Jai and his mother(Meenakshi) live in Turkey. Meenakshi runs a restaurant and Jai own a car dealership. He falls in love with Sandhya (Shruthi Hassan) who lives in Istanbul. After Sandhya’s father insists to meet Jai’s parents to settle the wedding, Jai’s father Veera Simha Reddy comes to Turkey, which is when Jay meets his father for the first time. Things take a drastic turn around when Veera Simha Reddy comes to Turkey, as his past follows him there. What is that past and what happens forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Balakrishna, as always, is in his element as Veera Simha Reddy. He perfectly embodies the raw and rustic nature of Veera Simha Reddy, a role that is tailor-made for the actor who has been seen in similar roles several times before. He is good in the over-the-top action scenes as well, and his dialogues are a treat to his audience.

Shruti Haasan is ok in the movie and dances well in the songs, but doesn’t have anything much to do storywise. Certain forced comedy scenes through her character don’t work well.

Honey Rose, who made her Tollywood debut with the film is the surprising factor of the film, as she is very good in her role. As a mother and as VSR’s love interest , she has done well in the film, and has also contributed well in the glamour department.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is perfect in her role, and her emotion is perfectly shown throughout the film. Her scenes with Balakrishna particularly stand out.

The rest of the supporting cast, like Murali Sharma and Naveen Chandra, are good enough in their roles and do the needful as per the script.

Off-Screen Talents:

Director Gopichand Malineni has come up with  couple of twists in the film, and while they’re good, they are also not novel for the audience. The screenplay lags quite a bit throughout the movie. However, the director failed to incorporate any entertaining/comedy moments into the screenplay. The film feels too long and boring after a certain point. The only saving grace of the film would be Varalaxmi’s emotion track, which “might” appeal to a section of the audience. On the whole, the director seems to have just recycled stories that have already been seen before.

A few songs composed by Thaman are good, but the background music composed by the music director is not extraordinary as one would expect, and is just okay, especially when compared to the kind of background music he provided for Akhanda.

The production values of the film are okay, and the camera work is good. The editing could have been a lot better, with the film’s runtime having been made much crisper.

Minus Points:

• Age old concept
• Lack of entertainment
• Runtime of the movie
• Entire first half

Verdict: Veera Simha Reddy is a movie that will cater mostly to Balayya’s die-hard fans, for its over the top action sequences. Otherwise, the film is just a routine faction drama that has loud music, action sequences and a routine story, which may not appeal to the general audience.

4:00 PM EST : Jay(Balakrishna) owns a Car Dealership in Istanbul. Movie starts with a fight introduction of Balakrisnhna which is an average watch. Jay meets Shruthihasan and falls in love with her.

4:20 PM EST : Suguna Sundari song is okay. Jay’s father is Veera Simha Reddy who lives in rayalaseema. Fight between VSR and Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) is good for fans. Sambavi (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar)  is Pratap Reddy’s wife.

4:45 PM EST :  VSR vs home minister is a direct dig at the ruling party. VSR goes to Istanbul to his son’s engagement with Eesha (Shruthi Hasan). Story happenings move to Istanbul.

First Half Report: First half of the VSR has nothing to offer except the makeover of Senior character. Lacks story & entertainment.2nd half should be exceptionally good to make this at least an average fair.

5:30 PM: Second half starts with flash back of VSR. Jai Balayya song is good, fans will enjoy.

6:00 PM: Flashback story continues, second half has more drama than the first. Vara Lakshmi SarathKumar’s performance in emotional scenes is good. Maa Bava manovbavalu song song is not placed correct but entertains masses.

6:30 PM: More emotional scenes to follow. Jay takes a revenge on the villian in a heavy climax scene. Movie comes to an end.

Final Report : #Veerasimhareddy is a routine faction drama that has mass fights that NBK fans expect but lacks comedy & entertainment and feels lengthy.2nd half has better drama and emotional scenes but may not be enough to change the fate of the movie. It has loud music, over th e top fights & age old treatment that does not appeal to general audience.
