However, he is still an essential part of our community and brings all kinds of news to our doorstep.

Importance of a Postman in Society

From delivering mails and collecting signatures from recipients, they perform other support tasks related to organisations like operations, administration, and management duties. Postal employees get trained by postmasters to handle customer transactions like selling postage, money orders, or collecting post office box rent, supervise mail processing, and address post office regulations-related queries to customers.

Challenges Faced by a Postman

He even has to find the best possible routes based on the addresses to ensure that people receive their parcels on time. The salary of a postman is generally not very high as most postmen are not qualified enough. He reports to the post office every morning, collects all the letters, and distributes them to different addresses. In case of any delivery gets misplaced, reaches the destination late, or the letter reaches the wrong address, a postman can be questioned by the postmaster. He may even face punishment in such cases, lose his job or suffer a pay cut from his salary in such a situation.

A postman composition teaches the value of hard work, determination, and honesty in one’s profession. It is an excellent way to teach kids about such occupations and how people fulfil their duties by overcoming all their problems and hurdles.

City people might have got advanced and don’t avail many postal services. But in rural areas, you will see people waiting for the postman to know the news from their loved ones. Take your kids out to spot a postman on the street, distributing happiness all around.

Essay on Postman

The postman is a very integral part of our daily life. Though this the age of computes and all that goes with it, the postman still delivers letters, books, magazines, parcels and money orders which cannot b done by computers.

The postman, being a government servant has to be identified as such, so he dons a khaki uniform, a matching cap and carries a bag on his shoulder in which he packs all the post that needs to be delivered.

The work of a postman is not easy. He starts his day by reporting at the office by 9 o’clock sharp. He signs the register and gets down to the business of the day. A gunny bag full of letters is sorted out for delivering in different zones of the city.

The letters and other postal articles of one zone are taken to the respective counter and thee they are sorted street-wise and number-wise, so that the postman does not waste the time while delivering his quota of the post. Then begins the tedious part of the job, that is going from house to house to make the deliveries. The letters are easy because he just drops them into the letterboxes or slips them under the doors in case there are no boxes.

Rain, hail, sunshine or storm you will never fail to see the postman on his rounds. He has no choice as his work is a very important and risky one at the same time, as he can be identified and held responsible for the loss of any postal articles. But unfortunately, the postman gets a very meager salary.

In villages the postman’s work is more or less the same but his job is made easier as he goes on his rounds on a cycle, because the villages are far apart. But sometimes the postman has to move on unmetalled roads and has to cross muddy fields.

Then the postman has to return to the post office, make his report to the postmaster, and then if any odd jobs need to be completed, he does so and calls it a day. He returns home a truly tired man.

250 Words Essay on Postman

The postman, a seemingly ordinary figure, plays a crucial role in the infrastructure of our society. They act as a bridge between people, connecting them through the exchange of letters, parcels, and important documents.

The Art of Communication

In the digital age, postmen still stand as a testament to the traditional form of communication. They remind us of the human touch involved in delivering a handwritten letter or parcel, a sentiment that electronic communication often lacks. This personal touch adds an emotional dimension to their service, making it more than just a job.

The Postman and Society

The postman is an integral part of the community, interacting with people from all walks of life. Their work goes beyond mere delivery; they also serve as a social link, often being the only point of contact for those living in remote areas. Their role is especially crucial in rural and remote regions where digital communication is still a challenge.

Challenges Faced by Postmen

Despite their crucial role, postmen face numerous challenges. These include adverse weather conditions, long working hours, and the physical strain of carrying heavy loads. Moreover, the advent of digital communication has threatened their profession, with many fearing redundancy.

In conclusion, the postman’s role is far more than just delivering letters. They are the custodians of personal communication, a social link, and a symbol of a time when communication had a more personal touch. As we move further into the digital age, it’s important to appreciate and respect their contribution to society.

500 Words Essay on Postman

The quintessential postman: an unsung hero.

The postman, a seemingly ordinary figure, is an integral part of our society. Despite the rapid digitization of communication, the role of the postman remains significant, particularly in rural and remote areas. They serve as lifelines, connecting people and facilitating the exchange of thoughts, emotions, and official communications.

The Role and Responsibilities of a Postman

The postman’s primary responsibility is to deliver mail and parcels to the designated addresses. However, their role extends beyond mere delivery. They are often the bearers of news, both joyous and sorrowful. They deliver acceptance letters from universities, job appointment letters, wedding invitations, and even condolence messages. In rural areas, they often read out letters to those who are illiterate, thereby acting as a bridge between the literate and the illiterate.

Moreover, postmen also play a crucial role in financial inclusion. In several developing countries, postmen deliver money orders, pension payments, and other government benefits to people who do not have access to formal banking systems.

The Challenges Faced by a Postman

Despite the essential role they play, postmen often face numerous challenges. They work in all weather conditions, traversing long distances, sometimes on foot, to deliver mail. They have to navigate difficult terrains, face aggressive pets, and even deal with irate customers at times. Despite these hardships, they persist in their duties with dedication and resilience.

The Impact of Digitalization on the Postman’s Role

The advent of digital communication has significantly impacted the role of the postman. Emails, instant messaging, and social media platforms have reduced the volume of traditional mail. However, the postman’s role has evolved rather than diminished. They now deliver more parcels due to the growth of e-commerce. Moreover, in many areas, they have transitioned into multi-tasking agents, providing banking services, selling insurance, and collecting data for government surveys.

The Postman: A Symbol of Community Connection

Conclusion: the future of the postman.

While the role of the postman is evolving, they remain an essential part of our society. As we move towards a more digital world, it is crucial to remember the human connection that a postman brings and the vital services they provide to the most vulnerable sections of society. The postman, often overlooked, truly is an unsung hero of our communities.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Happy studying!

Nowadays, the services in post offices also provide life insurance coverage under Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI). People can also avail of retail services like bill collection, sale of forms, etc. The post offices act as an agent for the Government of India in discharging other services for citizens, such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), wage disbursement and old age pension payments.

The importance of the postman may have reduced with time due to the introduction of modern communication systems. However, they are still an essential part of our community. They still deliver many important posts, money orders and other government schemes. They reach remote places for their work, whether it is mountains and valleys, hilly areas, or deserts. Postmen carry out their duties in all seasons, no matter how cold or hot the day is. Whether it’s raining heavily or flooded with water, they do their work with full responsibility.

Essay on Postman | For Students

In our fast-paced digital age, where emails and text messages have become the norm, it’s easy to forget about the dedicated individuals who play a vital role in our daily lives – the postmen. Postmen, often referred to as mail carriers or postal workers, are the unsung heroes who ensure that letters, packages, and parcels reach their intended destinations. In this essay, I will argue why postmen are essential members of our community. By examining their role in society, the value they bring to our lives, and the challenges they face, I hope to convince you that postmen deserve our appreciation and recognition.

The Role of Postmen

Postmen have been a part of our communities for many decades, dating back to the establishment of postal services. Their primary role is to deliver mail and packages to homes, businesses, and post office boxes. They serve as a bridge between people, enabling communication and the exchange of goods. Postmen are responsible for ensuring that important documents, letters from loved ones, and packages containing essential items reach their recipients in a timely and secure manner. Without their diligent efforts, our society would not function as smoothly.

The Value They Bring

Postmen bring immense value to our lives and communities. They provide a reliable and convenient way for us to send and receive physical mail and packages. For example, when grandparents send birthday cards or when we order online purchases, it’s the postman who delivers these items to our doorstep. Postmen also play a crucial role in connecting people in remote areas or those who may not have access to modern technology. They ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, can send and receive mail.

The Human Touch

In an era dominated by digital communication, postmen offer a valuable human touch to the process of sending and receiving mail. Unlike emails and text messages, physical mail carries a personal and emotional connection. Handwritten letters and cards convey heartfelt sentiments, and postmen become the bearers of these emotions. They often develop relationships with the people on their routes, offering a friendly smile and a familiar face. This human interaction fosters a sense of community and belonging.

Facing Challenges

Being a postman is not without its challenges. They work in various weather conditions, from scorching heat to freezing cold, to ensure mail delivery is uninterrupted. They also encounter dogs and other hazards while on their routes. Moreover, the rise of online shopping has led to an increase in package deliveries, adding to their workload. Despite these challenges, postmen remain dedicated to their duties, ensuring that mail reaches its destination safely.

Adaptation in the Digital Age

In recent years, the role of postmen has evolved to adapt to the digital age. They now play a crucial role in delivering important documents, such as legal notices and government correspondence. Additionally, postmen are essential for delivering prescription medications and other critical supplies, especially during emergencies like natural disasters. Their adaptability and willingness to embrace new responsibilities highlight their importance in a changing world.

Conclusion of Essay on Postman

In conclusion, postmen are the unsung heroes of our communities. They play a crucial role in ensuring that mail and packages reach their intended recipients, bridging the gap in communication and connection. Their value goes beyond just delivering physical items; they bring a human touch to our lives in an increasingly digital world. Despite facing numerous challenges, postmen remain dedicated to their duties. As we send and receive mail, let us not forget to appreciate and recognize the essential role that postmen play in our society. They truly deserve our respect and gratitude for their unwavering commitment to serving our communities.

A postman is a community helper. He is as important to the society as other community helpers such as a doctor, a teacher, a policeman, and a vegetable-seller. He helps in connecting people by conveying their messages to each other.

A postman wears a khaki uniform and holds a bag full of letters on his shoulder. He rides a bicycle and roams around on streets to deliver letters to different addresses. He needs to make sure that every letter reaches the correct address. He also needs to ensure that the letters are delivered timely. Many people subscribe to magazines and newsletters. Postman’s profession is quite tough. He faces many hardships such as riding the cycle all day long irrespective of the weather outside. Whether it is rainy, windy or sunny, a postman cannot take a leave. He needs to be out on his cycle to distribute the letters so that people do not miss any important message. This can be quite strenuous physically. However, he does his job with dedication. By evening he needs to report to the post office. He is allowed to go home only after the postmaster’s approval.

Despite the hard work, a postman is not paid well. I wish the government increases the allowance of the postmen.

‘Importance of Postman’

Introduction

In ancient times, people relied on pigeons to convey messages to their loved ones living in faraway lands. However, as things changed these were replaced by a more reliable medium. Post offices came into being and postmen were hired to deliver important letters, parcels, and documents.

The Importance of Postman in the Earlier Times

A postman was one of the most important community helpers in the times when there were no phones. People communicated with their relatives and friends living in distant lands by way of handwritten letters that were delivered by postmen.

Since banks were not easily accessible and there were no ATMs, people often sent money orders. Gifts and other important parcels were also sent via post. A telegram was sent in case an urgent message had to be conveyed. The role of the postman was thus that of great responsibility in the past.

People relied upon him for receiving money and important messages and things. They keenly waited for postman each day.

The Importance of Postman in the Modern Times

It would not be wrong to say that the importance of postman has lowered to some extent due to the introduction of phones and emails. Instead of writing long letters to each other, people send quick messages or emails to convey the message. They no longer have to wait for days to hear from each other.

They can simply make a call or text their loved ones as well as business associates and connect with them instantly. All the banking transactions including the transfer of money and receiving of documents is also done online. People hardly send money orders these days.

However, receiving handwritten letters is still a great feeling. The importance of postman may have reduced with time but he is still an essential part of our community. He still delivers many important posts such as university results, admission cards, weekly/ monthly magazines, and the likes.

Though we have now shifted to the electronic mediums of communication, however, the role of a postman is still important. It is good to see that most postmen carry out their duties with honesty and dedication.

Essay on Postman (400 words) – Essay 3

‘The Postman in Our Village’

We live in a residential society in a metropolitan city. The sight of a postman is very rare here. The postman usually delivers the letters at the society gate and that is where we pick them from. I only get to see a postman when I visit my grandparents during my summer vacation. They live in a beautiful village in North India. Postman is one of the few people who are awaited eagerly by the people of the village. We also look forward to his arrival each day.

The Joy of Receiving Letters

The atmosphere of villages is quite different from that of the cities. Children are seen playing together in the neighborhood all day long. Elderly people also gather to chit chat during the afternoon and evening hours. I and my siblings also play and run around the village area. The joy of the kids playing around increases particularly when they see the postman coming. They run after him chasing his bicycle, greeting him and giggling away to glory.

Everyone is eager to know if they have received any letter or another postal article. It is like receiving a precious gift. The postman seems as glad as the people around. He stops by at the addresses where the letters are to be delivered. People living in villages are quite courteous. They offer him water. Some of them even offer him sweets on special occasions.

There is no bank or ATM in our village. The nearest one is around 10 km away. It is difficult to withdraw money transferred to the bank. This is the reason why money orders are quite common here. People prefer receiving their payments through money orders. Many children also send money orders to their parents living in the village so that they can purchase things with ease. The postman understands the importance of money orders. He carefully delivers them to the respective recipients.

The Postman Reads the Letters

Many people in the village do not know how to read. So, in addition to distributing letters, the postman also takes it as his responsibility to read the letters to villagers. He does this job with joy. He sits down and patiently conveys the message written in the letter to the people. In case, there is some good news, people reward the postman to express and share their happiness.

The bond between the villagers and the postman is really strong. It is a treat to watch the postman riding through the village. We miss this in the city.

Essay on Postman (500 words) – Essay 4

‘Postman: A Tough Profession’

A postman is a government servant. He is employed to distribute letters, money orders, and other postal articles to people. He roams around on a bicycle all day to complete the work assigned to him. The profession of a postman is not easy. He needs to face many challenges.

The khaki Uniform

A postman wears a khaki uniform. He wears a matching cap and carries a bag full of letters on his shoulder. The bag also contains certain other stuff such as cards, money orders and magazines that need to be delivered at different addresses. The uniform of a postman sets him apart from the rest of the public. A postman’s uniform helps us recognize him from a distance.

The Old Bicycle

A postman rides a bicycle even in today’s times. People have upgraded from cycles to scooters to cars. However, postmen are still assigned bicycles. They roam around on this eco-friendly vehicle the entire day to distribute letters and other important documents to people.

Many people argue that their vehicles should also be upgraded. However, others support this old way of commuting. It may take time for the postmen to reach from one place to another via cycle. However, there are many advantages attached to it too. One of the main advantages is that a postman does not have to worry about traffic jams.

The role of a postman is that of great responsibility. He needs to ensure timely delivery of letters. Driving a car, scooter or tempo can hinder his work as it will make it difficult for him to escape the traffic. Besides, cycles are good for the environment. They do not cause pollution, unlike cars and bikes. Also, riding a bicycle keeps the postman healthy and fit.

Postmen are usually seen riding an old bicycle which has become an integral part of their identity.

A Tough Job

The job of a postman is not easy. He requires reporting to the post office early every morning. He collects all the letters from the post office and then sets out to distribute them in the area assigned to him. The letters need to be distributed at different addresses. He needs to look for the best possible route based on the addresses he needs to visit in order to complete his job by evening.

He needs to ensure that the letters reach people on time so that they do not miss out on any important message. A postman cannot afford to miss any delivery or misplace any letter as he can be questioned for loss or delayed delivery. He can be punished in such cases. He can lose his job or a part of his salary in the event.

In the evening, the postman requires reporting to the post office again. In case, any job is left incomplete he requires completing it before heading home.

It is sad, that even though a postman works hard all day long, he is not paid well by the government.

The service provided by a postman is essential for society. We should be thankful to these professionals for carrying out their tasks with dedication.

‘Postman in Our Neighbourhood’

Since my early childhood years, I remember one person who visits us regularly. He comes to our house many times a week and has become a part of our family. He is our postman, Naresh. While many postmen are transferred to a different area every few years, Naresh has been delivering letters in our vicinity for quite a long time. It has been for several years.

My Grandparents Await Postman Eagerly

While most of us have switched from writing letters to sending a quick email or message, my grandmother still prefers the good old way of writing letters. She and her siblings exchange handwritten letters regularly to keep in touch with each other. I often go with her to the post office to purchase inland letters, envelop and stamps. She also assigns me the task of putting letters in the nearby letterbox. We then await their reply. My grandmother eagerly waits for our postman, Naresh each day and so do I.

Apart from the letters from my grandmother’s siblings, we often receive letters from banks and some other institutions. Naresh knows that my grandmother keenly awaits letters from her loved ones. He rings the cycle bell joyfully as he approaches our place on the days he brings letters for my grandmother.

Just as my grandmother is overjoyed to receive these letters, Naresh is glad to deliver them. Sometimes, her brother sends her gift. No matter how small the gift is, the joy of receiving a surprise parcel is simply unmatched. Naresh makes sure the parcel is carefully kept in his bag to avoid any kind of breakage. He joyfully hands it over to my grandmother who is thrilled at receiving it.

My grandfather, on the other hand, waits for letters from the stock market and bank. While my father carries out all the banking transactions online and receives notifications on his mobile or email, my grandfather still prefers the old way of dealing with such institutions. So, he too awaits Naresh every day. He trusts Naresh completely and thus instead of visiting the bank he often opts for receiving even the most important and confidential documents via post.

My Pen Friend

I love this old way of keeping in touch. To experience the joy of receiving letters, I recently made a pen friend. In this era of mobile phones and chatting apps, this seems quite old fashioned and mundane. But I really wanted to experience this and it is really awesome. I write regularly to this friend and it is exciting to receive letters from her. She even sent me a beautiful birthday card which came as a pleasant surprise.

Our Postman; Our Friend

We are lucky that Naresh has been assigned our area as he is a very sincere professional. He carries out his tasks with honesty and dedication. Many of our relatives complain of missing out on letters and gifts. It is all due to the negligence of the postman in their area. They visit the post office to register complain regarding the same.

However, the lost/ misplaced parcels and letters are seldom found. Thankfully, we have never faced any such problem. This is because Naresh is a thorough professional. He understands the importance of timely delivery of letters and other postal articles and makes sure no one misses out on an important message.

It would not be wrong to call Naresh a true friend. On festivals and other special occasions such as birthdays, we offer sweets and juice to Naresh as he visits our house. My mother also gives him some cash and a pack of sweets for his family. We have been following this ritual for years.

Our postman, Naresh is always on time despite the weather outside. He works tirelessly and always has a smile on his face. His sincerity and dedication inspire me to work hard.

Short Essay on the Postman for Children and Students

December 19, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

The postman needs no introduction to any of us. We meet him every day, moving from door-to-door in the locality. He is an important public servant. He wears a khaki uniform and carries a leather bag on his shoulders.

Postman pedals up and down the streets on his bicycle. He is always welcome because he brings letters, money orders, parcels and postcards. He keeps all these items in his bag, which he carries with him.

We wait for the postman eagerly every day. Sometimes, he brings letters contaning bad news. In that case, it is not wise to blame him.

A postman has to work very hard to perform his duty sincerely. No matter what the weather is, he does his duty every day. Sometimes, it may be biting cold, extremely hot, or when he delivers letters without fail. Every morning, he goes to the post office at his duty time and sorts out letters.

Then he takes these letters to their destination. He enjoys few or no holidays. His pay is little, but he is satisfied with what he gets and leads a contented life.

He  also delivers letters in villages where there are muddy roads. Sometime he reads out letters to those who are illiterate and writes replies for them.

He works hard the whole day. We must respect him because he is very useful to us. He is just like our friend and deserves our co-operation

Essay on Postman: A postman is generally employed with the postal department and is officially in charge of delivering letters and parcels from the post office to their addressed destinations. They travel to different areas, roads and houses and deliver money orders, envelopes, greeting cards, parcels and many more to the recipients. This public servant is usually dressed in a khaki coloured uniform and designated to deliver letters.

Essay on Postman 500 Words in English

Below we have provided Postman Essay in English, suitable for class 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

A postman is a government employee who delivers letters to houses and shops. He is responsible for delivering valuable documents, important letters, and even money orders and other parcels from one place to another. Bags of letters and other documents arrive at a post office from all over the country through trains or busses. They are then sorted based on delivery location and handed over to the designated postman. He then goes from door to door and street to street to deliver these items.

A typical day in a postman’s life begins early in the morning. He reaches the post office and gets busy sorting his pile of mailbags and letters based on locality. Then he spends the rest of the day taking rounds around his assigned area and delivering letters or packages. He goes about his day irrespective of the weather to ensure people receive their mail on time.

He is usually respected and welcomed wherever he goes as he brings in letters from loved ones or valuable packages. Some see hope in him, whereas others see fear. While a letter of examination success can fill a student with joy, passing away of a loved one can be difficult for the family. Thus, without knowing what news he carries, the postman is the messenger of joy, sorrow, birth, and death.

Importance of the Postman

Often, the postman is the only means of communication to a remote village or mountain areas. India has more than 1,55,000 post offices, making it the world’s largest postal network. More than 5 lakh employees are employed in the post office, and they work day in and day out to ensure people receive their mails safely, efficiently, and on time.

This widespread network sustains on the foundation built by individual postmen who connect India’s remote villages to the rest of the country. A postman is responsible for ensuring that the mail reaches its location in proper condition and within the promised time frame. Many important documents, including legal notices and property papers, pass hands through the postal service. Thousands and lakhs of letters are sent using the Indian postal system.

This is only possible because of the postmen’s hard work and the trust of people on them. A postman ensures that the parcel reaches the right person without any damage irrespective of the weather conditions or how tired he is. His dedication has played an important role in the postal system’s success. In a world before the internet, a postman carried the primary responsibility of being the carrier of both personal and professional information. In his trademark khaki dress, the postman played his role as an important member of the society.

A soldier posted on the heights of the Himalayas, on the snowy borders of our country has 110 other way to keep contact with his people in the far off towns or villages except through letters sent or received and the postman is the medium to bring these letters. How eagerly are these letters awaited on both ends?

Letters have not only the communicative value but they have sentimental value too. This value cannot be replaced by any other means of communication. A handwritten letter is a treasure for all times and a sweet remembrance of the writer who has long been dead and gone. Just open up the cupboard and draw out the packet of old letters, if they have been preserved and a rush of memories floats along before the mind’s eye. Who did bring them? the postman of course.

Essay on Postman

These days the importance of handwritten letters is getting reduced and so is the importance of the postman. The new means of communication the E-mails; the faxes; the internet chatting all these are replacing the handwritten letters. People take the excuse of being too busy ‘machines’ have taken over the ‘man’ in human relationships. A minutes ‘Hello’ ‘Hello’ on the telephone fulfills all the obligations of inter-communication.

Who would now undertake any research on the letters written by Jawaharlal Nehru to his daughter Indira Gandhi? Who would get the pleasure of probing into the sentiments of Keats the great English poet contained in his letters to his beloved and friends or Lord Chesterton sending his advice to his son. Those were handwritten letters having a historical, sentimental, and personal value. And all these letters must have been delivered by the postman. A village postman is still very important in our country.

Below we have given a short essay on Postman is for Classes 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. This short essay on the topic is suitable for students of class 6 and below.

He does not only carry letters but he even pens down the replies of the illiterate parents or a comely unlettered lass to her husband. The postman has to inscribe in words the message of blessings of love. He plays a great role without him, the surging feelings of the heart would have remained uncommunicated.

Lesser in demand, though, but the role of the postman has ever been and shall ever remain a real role in communicating the heart to the heart; the mind to the mind. Business would come to a standstill if documents and commitments are not sent and received. Who else to carry the written and signed word of course and indeed the Postman.

A day in the life of a postman

As india post celebrates national postal week, n saravanan, who works at a post office in coimbatore, takes us through his typical work day.

Dressed in a neatly-pressed khaki uniform with the red and yellow logo of India Post above his shirt pocket, postman N Saravanan hops on to his bicycle. It is 9.30 am, and his day has just begun. He has secured a bundle on the carrier and has hung two canvas bags on either side of the handlebar: they contain the day’s post. He arrived at 8.30 am at the post office in Nanjundapuram, a suburb in Coimbatore. The office is located in a building that is over 120 years old, and inside, there are wooden sorting tables and desks bearing marks from several decades of usage.

The mail van arrived from the Coimbatore RMS railway station at 7.30 am. D Bhuvaneshwari, the GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak) Packer, has stamped each cover by the time the two postmen working at the office arrive. They sort them according to their beats, say their goodbyes, and leave for ‘duty’.

Saravanan pedals along a narrow road that runs along a sugarcane field. “The most important aspect of the job is getting to know people in one’s beat,” he says. He started out in 1999, and knows every family in the region much like his own.

His day starts at 7.30 am, and ends at 3 pm

His day starts at 7.30 am, and ends at 3 pm | Photo Credit: Siva Saravanan S

“A decade ago, my bundle mostly had inland letters and the 25p postcards. A lot has changed over the years,” he says. But people continue to use India Post’s services for important documents such as passports, legal papers, letters from banks, and Government job applications. “Although several private courier services have come up, giving regular updates on WhatsApp and what not, our work load has only gone up, contrary to popular belief,” says the 43-year-old, adding that India Post has digitised a lot of its operations.

But there are certain things only a postman/woman can do. “People trust us with documents that can change the course of their lives,” says Saravanan, patting his post bundle. “This is more precious than gold, and so when I’m on duty, I have eyes not just on the front, but the sides and back as well,” he laughs. He has delivered exam results to students, their college admit cards, and subsequently, their job offers. “It is nice to see them wave at me on their way to work; I have seen their transition up close,” he says.

Saravanan remembers an incident from ten years ago: A Nanjudapuram resident had applied for a driver’s post at the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, and was waiting for his appointment order. “He and his father would come to the post office every morning asking if I had mail for them,” he recalls. The letter did come, and when Saravanan cycled to their house, the man cried as he opened it, and gave him a hug. “I’ve seen a lot of happy tears,” he says.

As the carrier of good tidings, he has had people offer him cake and sweets, and sometimes, lunch as well.  “I am always on the run, but I oblige on occasions,” he smiles. Saravanan’s beat has several coconut farms, and he often finds himself taking narrow roads with thick vegetation on either side. “Those routes makes me anxious; I often encounter snakes there,” he says, adding, “I’ve been bitten by dogs twice so far; every postman would have received a dog bite at least once during his tenure.”

His favourite part of the year used to be Deepavali and Pongal season. “People had the habit of sending vaazhthu (greetings) in the past. It was a delight to see the receiver’s face break into a smile when they read those,” he recalls.

Saravanan’s wife Subashini too was a postwoman. She has now been promoted to Postal Assistant and is in Chennai. “When both of us were on duty in the city, we would talk about our respective days in the evening at home,” he says. “There was so much to share.”

Saravanan then looks at his watch: it is time to go. His day ends at 3 pm. “I go back to the office to drop off the returns and then head home,” he tells us, pedaling along a dirt road, a protective hand on the bundle in his carrier as he navigates a turn.

A Top-Level Business Exec Shares A Day In Her Life

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

I wake up every morning just before 5am. I don’t set an alarm – I’m lucky that this seems to be where my body clock is set. The first thing I do is check all the socials for the accounts we work on. I have a whole social team but it's just my personal choice to just be on top of it. A lot of things happen late or even overnight, so I always do a skim to see how the content is performing, check the comments and then I also have the analytics set up for our press clients to track if anything has happened in the broader media. We are also working with Meta on a big strategy project at the moment. My morning soundtrack is anything Motown – a little dance around my bedroom is a great way to start the day.

Three times a week I do a boxing session with my PT.  After that, I go home and jump in the shower. My company launched Black Pound Day, so I am very conscious of shopping black-owned brands, especially when it comes to my beauty routine because I feel like they understand my skin type a little bit better. Generally, I am conscious about supporting small businesses, be they black or white owned. I use the Plant Made coffee infused body scrub and moisturiser – both leave my skin feeling amazing. For my face, I’m a big fan of Epara – everything from the cleansing lotion to the eye serum, face oil and face mist is exceptional.

On working from home days, I have breakfast at 7.30am. When I'm in the office, I'll fast and have breakfast at midday. I’m currently trying to stick to the  Eddie Abbew diet, so breakfast consists of feta, eggs and steak. I batch-make my green juices at the weekend, so I will also have one of those ready to go – coriander, kale, ginger, cucumber, a whole lemon, turmeric and pineapple is a good combo.  Good Morning Britain will be on in the background, so I am up to date with all of the headlines for the day. I'll also be on social media and checking in on my siblings because they run their own companies too. We like to send motivational songs and podcasts back and forth. I then get dressed for the day – roughly 90% of my wardrobe is high street; I love supporting female owned small businesses like Never Fully Dressed . As for designers, I like basics from Off-White but I generally only buy high-end handbags and accessories. My yellow Prada bag is my current favourite.

On the way to work, my scheduled LinkedIn posts go up.  I write them on a Sunday night and spend some of my   45-minute commute from Buckinghamshire to Shepherd's Bush replying to comments. I am a top voice on LinkedIn and find it such a valuable platform. I also like to listen to business podcasts – anything with Emma Grede; the one she did with Jay Shetty is ace. I also love the bite-sized content Timothy Amu produces, he’s a great business influencer who built an agency called Fanbytes at university. At 27 he sold it for eight figures. He's really straight to the point in terms of what he does and how he does it.

I arrive at the office for a meeting with my whole team. We are a team of 15 – plus numerous freelancers. It's high energy and fun but we work at a very serious pace because of nature of our clients. The focus on pop culture and what's going on in the world is really important. If there's a social trend that’s breaking, the team are straight into the boardroom in the morning to work out how we're reacting to it. They are very go, go, go. I’d say I’m a firm but fair boss. I take our work seriously, but I don't get carried away. I always say to the team, we're organising events and we're doing PR, placing products and telling really great stories creatively – that in itself is a privilege.

a day in the life of a postman essay

My team go through Diet Coke and Red Bull like it's going out of fashion.  I’ll raid our Smeg fridge for sparkling water and when it comes to afternoon snacks, I love a packet of Wotsits or Walkers Sensations. I am often working across lots of different time zones. We are just about to open an office in Amsterdam, and I travel to the US every eight weeks, as well as Cannes Lions every year.  Networking is important because so much of what we do is cultural. I also travel abroad for corporate and private speaking engagements.

I used to leave the office at 9pm.  But since my mum became ill earlier in the year, I now make a conscious effort to leave on time.   I'll pop in and see my mum and dad on the way home and then get back home around 7.30pm. When I get through the door, I have a shower and then put on my Skims pyjamas. I am a huge Skims fan, the quality really is unmatched. After that, I’ll make a start on my air fryer dinner – usually salmon steak and sweet potato mash.

I don’t make plans with friends between Monday and Thursday.  It’s more likely I’ll be at a work event or doing a panel talk. If I am home, I like to chill out by watching background shows like  Peep Show ,  The Inbetweeners , and  Drifters . I love British comedies and have watched them all.  More recently I’ve jumped on the  Emily in Paris train; I'm a bit late to the party but it’s such an easy watch.

I get into bed at 10.30pm.  I cleanse using the Fresh rose water followed by the Glowcery Superfood Face Serum. I have suffered from fibroids in the past – I’ve had 11 removed – so I now use caster oil patches whenever I need to, as it’s easily absorbed into the skin and helps with the pain. On my bedside table I have the new book by Sharmadean Reid,  New Methods for Women , my gratitude journal and a notepad and pen. That way I can easily scribble down any ideas that I have in the middle of the night. My candle of choice is always Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir and I always treat myself to fresh flowers. The last thing I do before bed is check TikTok… terrible I know!

Short Essay on Postman (200 words) – Essay 1

A postman is a community helper. He is as important to the society as other community helpers such as a doctor, a teacher, a policeman, and a vegetable-seller. He helps in connecting people by conveying their messages to each other.

A postman wears a khaki uniform and holds a bag full of letters on his shoulder. He rides a bicycle and roams around on streets to deliver letters to different addresses. He needs to make sure that every letter reaches the correct address. He also needs to ensure that the letters are delivered timely. Many people subscribe to magazines and newsletters. These are also delivered by the postman. He is reprimanded in case he doesn’t perform his duty well.

Essay on Postman (300 words) – Essay 2

Essay on Postman (600 words) – Essay 5
