1. Do you do housework at home?

Yes, I do! Even though I could afford a home, I prefer to do it on my own. I live by myself in a small, studio apartment so it’s easy enough. Actually, I find housework to be relaxing. When I feel stressed, I like the  mindless activity   (something which doesn’t require hard thinking)  of scrubbing the shower, floors, and kitchen cabinets. I really hate sweeping though! I always miss too many spots.

2. What kinds of housework do you often do?

All of them! I do dishes, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing the kitchen and bathroom. I usually do a deep clean every two weeks, but keep tidying up during the week. I have a  pet peeve (something that really bothers you)  of having a clean bathroom, so I generally do that about once a week.

3. Did you do housework when you were a child?

Yes, my parents enforced this. They had a rotation chore assignment chart for the 4 of us children every week. We would earn $5 a week for completing them. If we  acted up (misbehave),  extra chores would be  put on (assigned to)  us. If we had a special accomplishment, like straight A’s, we would be off chores for a week.

4. Do you think that children should do housework?

Absolutely! Even if the parents could hire help instead, it teaches children a sense of responsibility and skill. Also, it helps them to not be  spoiled ( a person who has too much) . When they learn these skills at a young age, they can carry it into their adulthood and be better homemakers.

5. Do you think that men and women should share housework?

Without a doubt! I don’t believe in these gender stereotypes of only women doing housework. I believe it is the responsibility of both people. Moreover, when they share the responsibilities, it takes the pressure off both of them. However, if one spouse is working all day and the other is at home, I think the one at home should cover the housework.

6. What kinds of household chores do you dislike doing?

I despise sweeping! Ever since I was a child, I’ve had a  poor eye (cannot see well)   for the dirt on the floor. I always tend to miss spots, then later when I mop, it makes a mess! Actually, at my first job in a restaurant, I was banned from sweeping because I did such a poor job!

10 Reasons Why Household Chores Are Important

Whether we like it or not, household chores are a necessary part of everyday life, ensuring that our homes continue to run efficiently, and that our living environments remain organized and clean, thereby promoting good overall health and safety. Involving children in household chores gives them opportunity to become active participant in the house. Kids begin to see themselves as important contributors to the family. Holding children accountable for their chores can increase a sense of themselves as responsible and actually make them more responsible.

Children will feel more capable for having met their obligations and completed their tasks. If you let children off the hook for chores because they have too much schoolwork or need to practice a sport, then you are saying, intentionally or not, that their academic or athletic skills are most important. And if your children fail a test or fail to block the winning shot, then they have failed at what you deem to be most important.

They do not have other pillars of competency upon which to rely. By completing household tasks, they may not always be the star student or athlete, but they will know that they can contribute to the family, begin to take care of themselves, and learn skills that they will need as an adult. Here is a list of household chores for kids:

1. Sense of Responsibility

Kids who do chores learn responsibility and gain important life skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Kids feel competent when they do their chores. Whether they’re making their bed or they’re sweeping the floor, helping out around the house gives them a sense of accomplishment. Doing daily household chores also helps kids feel like they’re part of the team. Pitching in and helping family members is good for them and it encourages them to be good citizens.

2. Beneficial to siblings

It is helpful for siblings of kids who have disabilities to see that everyone in the family participates in keeping the family home running, each with responsibilities that are appropriate for his or her unique skill sets and abilities.

Having responsibilities like chores provides one with a sense of both purpose and accomplishment.

4. Preparation for Employment

Learning how to carry out household chore is an important precursor to employment. Chores can serve as an opportunity to explore what your child excels at and could possibly pursue as a job down the road.

Nowadays in many countries women have full time jobs. Therefore, it is logical to share household tasks evenly between men and women. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Nowadays an ever-increasing number of women work full time, and in this reality it is widely believed that house chores should be shared between men and women equally. I strongly agree with this statement.

One of the reasons for sharing housework between is to promote gender equality. A stereotype that has existed a long time is that females ought to stay home, taking care of the family once they got married. This includes looking after the children and doing all of the housework, which is fairly labour-intensive. However, this approach could have quite a few disadvantages. It would render women less able of keeping abreast of what is happening in the job market, thus forming a lifestyle where they might find it arduous to step into the society again. To avoid this, many women are willing to get back into the workforce soon after their maternity leave, and once they do, it makes sense that their husbands should share part of the household chores, to fulfill their family responsibilities.

Nevertheless, we cannot be oblivious several drawbacks of this trend. One potential downside is that men are less experienced in dealing with household tasks. This is because many seldom take an active role in doing housework, according to customs of many countries. As a result, they may end up doing household tasks in a less than perfect way, which could contribute to some unnecessary quarrels between partners, hindering their family bond. However, the likelihood of this happening isn’t very high, because wives can offer some tips or guidance to their husbands when they learn how to share house chores such as mopping floors or doing laundry.

To sum up, although some conflicts might be triggered when equally sharing the duties of household tasks, the benefits of this trend are relatively oblivious.

The writer covered the task well by discussing the positives and negatives of sharing housework equally between men and women. Each paragraph has a clear purpose and assists with orderly presentation of ideas, making this essay easy to follow. The ideas are explained and substantiated, and the writer’s opinion is clear. The range of vocabulary is wide enough to avoid unnecessary repetition. It is obvious fact that education has become essential part for everyone. Hence students of the university are spending a lot of time in studying. However i argued to everyone that they should also spend time on other activities, such as sports, art, and many motivated task, which enhance their brain power and body strength. The number of households where both partners work are steadily on the rise and that is hardly surprising. Women have already proved that they are capable of performing just as well as men on the professional stage. Some people believe that when both partners have full-time jobs, they should divide the housework evenly between them. I totally agree with this view.

There is no denying the fact that when dual income couples share their household responsibilities, it improves the quality of their marital life. All women – both working and non-working – will appreciate it when their partners take the time to share the housework with them because it is a clear sign that their men care for them. When a working woman is forced to do all the housework without any help, it has a very negative effect on her mental and physical well-being. What’s more, it affects her performance on the work front. Working women who do not have the support of their partners are also more likely to quit their job.

When couples share the responsibilities of domestic life, they set a good example for their children. Children raised in such families will learn the value of empathy. And when they become adults they will have no trouble sharing the responsibilities with their respective partners.

After analyzing the situation, it is felt that working couples should be encouraged to share the responsibilities of their day-to-day life. It improves their family life and career prospects. By shouldering the responsibilities of household duties, parents also pass on worthy character traits to their children.

Should children do household chores?

Whether children should help around the house or not is one of the most hotly debated issues nowadays. Opinions on the subject are equallu divided. However, I firmly believe that children should be asked to do household chores as soon as they are able to do so.

The first important reason as far as I'm concerned is that getting children involved in doing domestic duties can teach them a massive set of life skills that will benefit their independent life in the future forever. The one thing that we all need to learn is how to run a home. After all, we all have to live somewhere. We, therefore, need to understand how to clean, how to cook, how to shop, how to budget,... For this reason, in our future, things will be much easier. We can prepare for the later life only by doing suitable household chores.

The second reason is that asking children to help with housework can teach them a sense of responsibility. In a family, every member has to do their own job. For example, father and brother are in charge of fixing things while mother usually does the shopping and cooks. Therefore, children should give a hand to express that they are responsible and independent of parents. Children can divide free time into two parts. They should spend only 30% of the free time on entertainment and the rest is for doing domestic duties. They can manage both studies and household chores easily. This teaches them how to become a qualified people and know their responsibilities in family and society.

Others who do not agree point out the potential danger involved in some household tasks. This cannot be denied but we have to remember that most task assignment is appropriate with parents taking into considerations children's age, experience and current skill level. Also, parential guidance is available if children need help. Some others do not approve of this arrangement say doing housework takes up a lot of time of children. However, children can control their spare time reasonably. They know how to make a distribution of time spent on their homework, entertainment and domestic duties. Therefore, time doesn't have an effect on children's responsibilities for doing housework.

In conclusion, it is really very essential for children to do household chores. This will certainly bring many benefits to them in many ways. Parents should also consider clearly ability and age of their children to make an appropriate task assignment.

Wages Against Housework

It is a revolutionary perspective shift because, in Federici's words, "to want wages for housework means to refuse that work as the expression of our nature, and therefore to refuse precisely the female role that capital has invented for us."

My husband quit a job he hated. As the breadwinner, I don't make as much money, but we feel like we can finally breathe again.

• Six months ago, my husband left his job, which was our only source of income. 
• Now I'm working while he's not, and switching roles has made us a better team.
• Even though there are a lot of uncertainties, this recalibration was needed, and we have no regrets.

For over a decade, my husband was a remote independent contractor for a company doing home energy efficiency reports, and he racked up enough work that I helped out. During this time, we also started our family, so I worked part-time while doing the lion's share of the domestic duties and childrearing for our two kids, now ages 9 and 5.

It was simply how our roles shook out, and it worked for us. This was years before the pandemic, so the idea that we could both work from home while raising our family felt like a dream.

In many ways, it was. Until it wasn't.

The job followed the increasingly common story of going nowhere. We were hitched to one company, which didn't offer a single pay increase in 10 years, even as the work grew more and more involved. It was our sole source of income, but by the end, the money just wasn't adding up anymore. So, six months ago, we did what many others dream of doing. We quit the job with no backup plan.

We've gone through a total role reversal

I'm now working as a freelance writer , and I'm not earning a ton, but I'm finally doing what I've always wanted to do. My husband was so burned out by the time he quit that he's taking some time before going back to work. Now, he is in charge of the housework and kid duties.

It's not perfect, but it feels like we are breathing fresh air for the first time in years.

Before, we had fallen into that old trap of feeling like the other person wasn't doing as much as we were. We both envied the roles the other had.

But now that we have worn each other's shoes, we are kinder to each other. He tells me to make sure I unwind after I finish working before switching to " Mom mode ," and I see and appreciate all that he is doing around the house and for the kids, knowing that it is just as hard.

The role reversal has also made us both realize how much pressure we've put on ourselves over the years. I see now how willing he is to lighten my load and wonder why I've felt I had to do the most while asking for the least. Additionally, it's only recently that I've understood the pressure he has expressed in holding the "breadwinner" title. I feel the same way now that I'm the one with the job , even temporarily.

Switching roles has expanded our mutual empathy, and we are a better team for it.

We are enjoying the role reversal, but it's still complicated

As refreshing as this time has been, I am also nervous about our future. Honestly, I thought he would be ready to go back to work by now. I don't make enough to make ends meet and we are pulling from our retirement savings to stay afloat. (PSA: You can withdraw your Roth IRA contributions penalty-free!)

Admittedly, I can feel resentful that I'm working while he isn't, especially when I've never had a clean break from work, not even when our babies were born. I would work at the computer while nursing our newborn and keeping an eye on the preschooler.

Even now, my invisible labor continues as he is on a learning curve in taking over the things I've been doing for years. Don't get me wrong, he's a perfectly capable human being and parent. But many of the tiny tasks that pile up when you have kids just haven't been on his radar until now.

Quitting a job is rarely practical, but it has helped us discover more possibilities

Of course, quitting a job is often not a viable option, and we have a lot of advantages that have afforded this privilege. For one thing, we lucked into affordable rental housing thanks to having access to a family-owned property. We also don't have debt, which allowed us to frontload our retirement accounts early on in our marriage while living below our means (which was much easier to do back in the early 2010s).

And while our job provided a sense of security, not having benefits tied to it made it easier to leave. We've always had to handle our own healthcare , retirement planning, and budget for unpaid time off, so that's nothing new.

Still, it took my husband getting to the end of his rope for us to begin to see other possibilities for making a living. I've dabbled in writing for years, but having the support I need to focus more time and energy on it has allowed me to make more progress in six months than in the previous five years.

My husband still isn't sure what he'll do next, but he's the most hopeful he's been in a long time. For him, it's freeing not to be pigeon-holed into a narrow career path or dependent on a benefits package. And since our financial planning has become a true hobby for him, we've even managed to see our savings grow over the past six months.

We still dream of owning a home and we have a family bucket list of trips and experiences we hope to have, but we are determined to pursue them while also prioritizing our well-being along the way. From now on, we will pay attention when a job or a role is wearing on us, and act a lot sooner to do something about it.

I think life needs recalibrating on occasion. As hard and scary as it can be, it also breathes new life into the tired roles we can get stuck in. For us, it's been worth it.

I Don’t Write Like Alice Munro, but I Want to Live Like Her

Ms. Heti is the author of the novels “Pure Colour,” “How Should a Person Be?” and, most recently, “Alphabetical Diaries.”

It is common to say “I was heartbroken to hear” that so-and-so died, but I really do feel heartbroken having learned about Alice Munro, who died on Monday.

As a writer, she modeled, in her life and art, that one must work with emotional sincerity and precision and concentration and depth — not on every kind of writing but on only one kind, the kind closest to one’s heart.

She has long been a North Star for many writers and was someone I have always felt guided by. We are very different writers, but I have kept her in mind, daily and for decades, as an example to follow (but failed to follow to the extent that she demonstrated it): that a fiction writer isn’t someone for hire.

A fiction writer isn’t someone who can write anything — movies, articles, obits! She isn’t a person in service to the magazines, to the newspapers, to the publishers or even to her audience. She doesn’t have to speak on the political issues of the day or on matters of importance to the culture right now but ought first and most to attend seriously to her task, which is her only task, writing the particular thing she was most suited to write.

Ms. Munro only ever wrote short stories — not novels, though she must have been pressured to. She died in a small town not too far from where she was born, choosing to remain close to the sort of people she grew up with, whom she remained ever curious about. Depth is wherever one stands, she showed us, convincingly.

Fiction writers are people, supposedly, who have things to say; they must, because they are so good with words. So people are always asking them: Can you say something about this or about this? But the art of hearing the voice of a fictional person or sensing a fictional world or working for years on some unfathomable creation is, in fact, the opposite of saying something with the opinionated and knowledgeable part of one’s mind. It is rather the humble craft of putting your opinions and ego aside and letting something be said through you.

Ms. Munro held to this division and never let the vanity that can come with being good with words persuade her to put her words just everywhere, in every possible way. Here was the best example in the world — in Canada, my own land — of someone who seemed to abide by classical artistic values in her choices as a person and in her choices on the page. I felt quietly reassured knowing that a hundred kilometers down the road was Alice Munro.

She was also an example of how a writer should be in public: modest, unpretentious, funny, generous and kind. I learned the lesson of generosity from her early. When I was 20 and was just starting to publish short stories, I sent her a fan letter. I don’t remember what my letter said. After a few months, I received a handwritten thank-you note from her in the mail. The fact that she replied at all and did so with such care taught me a lot about grace and consideration and has remained as a warmth within me since that day.

She will always remain for me, and for many others, a model of that grave yet joyous dedication to art — a dedication that inevitably informs the most important choices the artist makes about how to support that life. Probably Ms. Munro would laugh at this; no one knows the compromises another makes, especially when that person is as private as she was and transforms her trials into fiction. Yet whatever the truth of her daily existence, she still shines as a symbol of artistic purity and care.

I am grateful for all she gave to the world and for all the sacrifices she must have made to give it. I’m sorry to be here defying her example, but she was just too loved, and these words just came. Thank you, Alice Munro.
