how to get research points war thunder

Here's an easy to use War Thunder Research Points Guide, helping you to gain points and research planes efficiently.

Here's the Basics to Research Points on War Thunder:

  • You gain them from active combat and hits/destroys in-game.
  • They help to unlock planes through battles (includes bonus unblocks on later version aircraft.
  • Allow you to do aircraft modification when using the plane in battles.
  • It will allow you to always progress in the game.

How to Gain RP (Research Points) in War Thunder?

It doesn't matter what aircraft you fly in the battlefield RP gain only matters about the active combat you take part in, even the smallest of actions such as clipping a wing of an enemy plane to attacking ground units can contribute to the amount of research points you will gain in that aircraft. The hit value counter will work so that every hit for example is worth 2 Research Points where as a shoot down will be worth 50RP .

War Thunder Squadron Points: How To Get (Explained)

Check out this guide to know how you can get Squadron Points in War Thunder.

how to get research points war thunder

Wondering how you can get Squadron Points and unlock a special ranked vehicle in War Thunder? If yes, then don’t worry we have got you covered. In this multiplayer vehicular combat game, several players from all over the world can come together and form a battalion of their own. In simple words, a Squadron is a group of players who enjoy the enhanced co-op gameplay of War Thunder together. Once players are part of a group, they can unlock special ranked vehicles that are available. To do so you would need the Squadron Points which the game doesn’t exactly explain how you can get your hands on. So if you want to know more about these points, here is a guide you should check out further.

How to Get Squadron Points in War Thunder

Players can get Squadron Points or Squadron Research Points while being frequently active in War Thunder. Completing mission objectives, daily tasks and going through the various modes daily will help you gain Research Points in the game. For every 200 Research Points you collect, you will then be able to obtain an Activity Point. These are important for players, as these Activity Points are then tossed into a Squadron’s common pool . The amount of points each member adds to the pool is then calculated and converted into Squadron Points every 3 days.

It is worth mentioning that there is a cap on how many Activity and Squadron Points a player and the group can earn respectively. While players can earn up to 360 Activity Points for 3 days the Squadron Points are capped around 20000 . So even if your common pool has an excess of points, only these many points you will obtain in-game. You can then use these points to get the S quadron Ranked Vehicles across Aviation, Ground, Fleet & Helicopters . Another option to buy these vehicles is to purchase them with Golden Eagles .

How to Get Squadron Points in War Thunder

how to get research points war thunder

War Thunder barely needs an introduction. In 2013, while the game was still in beta, it won several awards at Gamescon. There are tons of vehicles and mechanics for you to explore and one of them is aquadron points. In this guide, we’ll talk you through what squadron points are and how to get them.

What is a Squadron in War Thunder?

A squadron is a group of players united under one banner or tag. The concept is comparable to clans or guilds in other games. The underlying principle of a squadron is that it allows cooperative gameplay.

Squadron tags show up next to a player’s in-game name and, as such, allow them to coordinate tasks against other squadrons. War Thunder opens up fresher and more exciting game modes for squadrons, such as squadron battles and World War Mode.

How Do You Create or Join a Squadron?

how to get research points war thunder

There are two tiers of squadrons in War Thunder. The first tier requires you to have 1,000,000 Silver Lions (SL) and the second one requires 2,500 Golden Eagles (GE).

With the first tier, you are only allowed to create a training squadron. This is the minimal tier and restricts the member count as well as some of the squadron features available in-game.

A squadron created via the second tier allows for a maximum member count of up to 128 players. It also allows all squadron members to access the full set of features offered in a squadron. As such, it is the premium option that is available outside of just the training bits of the game.

Here are the steps to create a squadron in either one of the tiers:

  • Choose a squadron name, in-game squadron tag, and the character borders that surround it.
  • Select the squadron’s region.
  • Add a description of your squadron so that players know what to expect from the squadron. This will help make it easier to find like-minded players.
  • Put your squadron on the game’s squadron list so that players looking for a squadron know of your opening.

Squadrons have a hierarchy. The Commander is placed highest on the list and the Privates and Sergeants make up the lowest ranks.

What are Squadron Points in War Thunder?

Squadron points can be most simply explained as a third kind of currency available to players in War Thunder. While the other two currencies – Silver Lions and Golden Eagles – are both available to purchase, the squadron research points can only be obtained through in-game missions once you have joined a squadron.

Accrued squadron points are primarily used to unlock squadron vehicles . Squadron vehicles are special in-game vehicles that are only attainable otherwise via Golden Eagles, i.e. by spending cash. Or in this case, you can get them by using earned squadron points.

war thunder squadron fighting in the air

There are two key components to getting squadron points. One is to find a squadron consisting of active players . The other is to simply play as much as possible . Complete the game’s various challenges and battles to earn research points, turn those into activity points, and then use squadron points to research your desired vehicles.

A key point to remember is that squadron points are directly dependent on players’ regularity in the game. This is measured through a metric called activity points, on the basis of which each squadron member’s final squadron points allocation is calculated.

Activity points are key to this calculation. For every 200 research points that are obtained in the game, a player is awarded one activity point. Each member’s activity point, when added up, gives you the squad’s total activity. That is calculated in a three-day cycle with a cap of 360 activity points.

How to Calculate Squadron Points

The formula is: Number of Members * Activity points of the squadron = Squadron points (Capped at 20,000)

If a squadron has 128 members (the maximum allowed), the maximum obtainable squadron points are 128*360 = 46,080 points every three days. This, however, is capped at 20,000 points. So, depending on your squadron size, you can get anywhere between 0 and 20,000 squadron points in War Thunder every three days.

As a member of this squadron, if your activity in every cycle is equal to or greater than 43%, you will receive the full 20,000 squadron points. If not, you will receive proportionately fewer squadron points based on your activity’s ratio to the team’s activity.

Ways to Maximize Your Squadron Points

Not every squadron will have 128 members as in the example above. So make sure you keep a close eye on your squadron activity and ramp up your own activity accordingly. Also important while looking for a squadron to join is to make sure it has high occupancy and sufficient activity.

The lower the overall squadron activity, the easier it is for you to contribute and gain the maximum possible squadron points.

If you’re a squadron creator, it helps to keep an eye on low-activity members and remove them if needed. Because in the end, being active is all that matters to get squadron points in War Thunder.

To be a good contributor you will need to fly like an ace. Here are a few guides to help you with that:

Description

Squadron vehicles are special vehicles obtainable by squadron research points or by golden eagles. Squadron research points are gained from being active while being in a squadron. For every 200 research points earned, an "activity point" will be added to the squadron's collective pool. Every 3 days, these activity points will be converted into an amount of research points towards the selected squadron vehicle, depending on the player's relative activity and the total number of points in the pool. Each player can contribute up to 360 points per 3-day period, and the activity pool is limited to 20,000 points. Squadron vehicles can also be bought for golden eagles. These vehicles often have something special about them, such as the M901 's missile launcher or the Firecrest 's torpedo.

Report on how scores, SL, and RP rewards are calculated

Tokusa

I have researched and compiled a report on how WT's score, SL, and RP rewards are calculated. In this report, you will find links to the base bombing report and the score and SL,RP calculators. The report is based on the match results screen, scoreboard, and replays. I have not done any internal programming analysis of the game, which would violate the Terms of Service. It took over a year and three original reports before I created this report. Due to the huge amount of data, there may be mistakes. Please point out any mistakes. The original report is written in Japanese. Please forgive us for the parts of the translation that are not good.

The basic mechanics of RP calculation are explained in the report. However, it is extremely difficult to accurately calculate RP in any mode other than Air RB because it does not show the activity of individual vehicles.

I believe that the SL reward for Air SB can be calculated using the following formula.   " Maximum SL reward per minute x playing time x activity " However, as with RP, the activity of individual vehicles is not displayed, so it is not possible to accurately calculate SL rewards.

Actually quite a few of pilots there play using only a single plane. I would even claim that majority of players will spawn only with 1 plane / match. They just spawn multiple times to that same plane. So the total activity should quite often represent the total activity of a single plane. Unless you ment activity / death?

I'm very sceptical about the RP part. To me it seems there is no base RP rewards (nor base SL rewards) for any action in air Sim and everthing is tied somehow to the time spent in game + activity (=score). And when it comes to SL the " Maximum SL reward per minute x playing time x activity ": while it is probably close to the raw base of the calculations going on it is clearly missing quite a lot. Lets take a game I played just a couple days ago with premium Hs129 which has 4320 SL/min modifier:

mRewf9A.png

It was the only plane I played and I was in the match for 2h 58min with activity of 70%. So it should yielded: 4320 SL/min x 178min x 0.7 = 426 132 SL, right? Yet the end result looked like this with a victory + SL booster for the first 30min:

shot_2022.09.01_13.53.57.jpg

The formula you suggested does not count landings. You will get only 80% of the SL earned if you die. Or you could say that you get a 20% bonus for landing your plane. Gaijin also says the matches are divided into 15 min cycles and apparently you would need to do something on every phase to get max rewards. If the 15min cycles are there I assume they are clocked like boosters (so tied to match timer and not to the time you join the match). But I have no idea if I need to get x score during every 15min phase to get max rewards. Or would lets say just 1 score / every 15 min phase be enough as long as I have farmed enough score during some of the phases to get max total activity.

EDIT: (in the Hs129 test game all the score/activity came in during the first 30 minutes and after that I flew around enjoying the views for 2,5 hours without getting any additional score)

The Air SB is supposed to calculate rewards on a 15 minute pitch, but I honestly don't know. I have verified this with several people, including myself.

It seems that if you score more in a shorter period of time, you may get more SL rewards than the 15 minute pitch calculation. Conversely, if the score is smaller, it seems to be closer to the 15 minute pitch calculation. In any case, I can only make a rough guess since the calculation parameters are not clear in the Air SB.

Yeah, there could be somesort of overflow mechanic which gives you SL rewards for longer period of time than a single 15min phase if you manage to get high enough score. Hard to say how it exactly works.

Great stuff and accurate too. I do miss the old days where you could earn up to 120k SL on premium plane 15% booster and a premium time, sadly that is no more.

VT_88

Yep, it is all based upon activity.

Do I understand it correctly that the reward per e.g. Kill does not depend on the BR of the match?

So a 4.0 Tank that kills another 4.0 tank gets the same base reward like 10.0 tank killing 10.0 tank?

I am asking because i thought that high BR premium vehicles generate higher SL rewards, but if the above is correct, than its just a matter of SL multiplier.and a Pz.Bef.Wg. IVJ can be almost as profitable as Leo2A4 premium.

The base reward doesn't change. What changes is the multiplier to that base reward from the vehicle card, which is generally higher the higher you go up in rank/BR. So in your example the IVJ has modifiers of x4.62 RP and x4.2 SL (assuming premium time), and the 2A4 has modifiers of x6.78 RP and x4.35 SL. That's offset by the 2A4's higher repair cost so in game terms they're close to being equivalent for SL earning, although the 2A4 retains a research speed advantage.
