How to Create an Effective Flight Attendant Resume

A well-structured flight attendant resume typically includes the following sections:

  • Contact Information
  • Professional Summary or Objective Statement
  • Professional Experience
  • Language Skills (if applicable)
  • Additional Information (volunteering, relevant hobbies, etc.)

Here's an example of a good flight attendant resume outline:

[Your Name]

[Your Email Address] - [Your Phone Number] - [Your Address]

[2-3 sentences highlighting your experience, key skills, and career goals]

[Job Title]

[Airline Name]

[Employment Dates] - [Employment Dates]

  • [Responsibility/Achievement]

[Previous Job Title]

[Company Name]

[Degree] - [Major]

[University Name]

[Graduation Date] - [Graduation Date]

[Certification Name]

[Relevant skill 1] • [Relevant skill 2] • [Relevant skill 3] • [Relevant skill 4] • [Relevant skill 5] • [Relevant skill 6]

Why it works

This flight attendant resume outline provides a clear, organized structure for a flight attendant resume. It ensures that all crucial information is included and presented in a logical order. The professional summary at the top immediately captures the recruiter's attention, while the key skills section highlights the most important qualifications. The experience section, being the core of the resume, is given prominence. The inclusion of certifications and language skills is particularly important for flight attendant positions.

Flight attendants should typically use a reverse-chronological resume layout. This format highlights your most recent and relevant experience first, which is crucial in the aviation industry where recent experience and up-to-date certifications are highly valued.

Here's an example of how the experience section might look in a reverse-chronological layout:

  • Ensure safety and comfort of passengers on long-haul international flights
  • Lead a team of 5 junior flight attendants, providing mentorship and training
  • Received "Crew Member of the Year" award in 2020

AirWave Express

03/2015 - 05/2018

  • Conducted pre-flight safety checks and demonstrated safety procedures
  • Assisted passengers with special needs and resolved customer service issues
  • Consistently received positive feedback from passengers and supervisors

This layout clearly shows the progression of the candidate's career, starting with the most recent position. It allows hiring managers to quickly see the applicant's current role and responsibilities, which are typically the most relevant. The inclusion of achievements (like the "Crew Member of the Year" award) adds weight to the experience.

However, in some cases, a functional or combination resume might be appropriate:

  • Use a functional resume if you're changing careers and want to highlight transferable skills.
  • Consider a combination resume if you have a diverse background and want to showcase both skills and experience.

Your resume header should be clean, professional, and contain all necessary contact information. Here's what to include:

  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • City and State/Country (full address is not necessary)
  • LinkedIn Profile (optional, but recommended)

CHEN LI Flight Attendant Extraordinaire 🌎 New York, NY 10001 📞 (555) 987-6543 ✉️ [email protected] 🔗 linkedin.com/in/chenli

While creative, this header may be too informal for many airlines. The use of emojis and the "Flight Attendant Extraordinaire" title could be seen as unprofessional. Stick to a more straightforward format unless you're certain the airline appreciates this level of creativity.

Sophia Rodriguez Miami, FL 33101 (555) 123-4567 [email protected] linkedin.com/in/sophiarodriguez

This flight attendant resume header is clean, professional, and provides all necessary information. The inclusion of the LinkedIn profile is a nice touch, allowing recruiters to easily view more detailed information if desired.

Your resume summary should be a brief, powerful statement that encapsulates your experience, skills, and what you can bring to the role. For a flight attendant position, consider including:

  • Years of experience in the aviation industry
  • Key resume skills relevant to flight attendant duties
  • Any specializations or unique qualifications
  • A brief mention of your career goals

Friendly and hardworking individual looking for a job as a flight attendant. I love to travel and meet new people. I have great customer service skills from working at a coffee shop and I'm a quick learner. I'm excited to start my career in the sky!

While enthusiastic, this summary lacks the professionalism and specific qualifications airlines look for. It doesn't mention any relevant experience or skills specific to being a flight attendant. The tone is too casual for a professional resume. Always focus on relevant skills and experience, and maintain a professional tone.

Dedicated flight attendant with 5+ years of experience ensuring passenger safety and comfort on international flights. Fluent in English and Spanish with a proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service in high-pressure situations. Seeking to leverage my expertise in a senior cabin crew position with a major airline.

This summary effectively communicates the candidate's experience, key skills (language fluency and customer service), and career goal. It's concise yet informative, giving recruiters a quick overview of what the applicant brings to the table.

Understanding common flight attendant responsibilities is crucial for crafting an effective resume. Here are some key responsibilities to consider highlighting:

  • Ensuring passenger safety and comfort
  • Conducting pre-flight safety checks
  • Demonstrating and explaining safety procedures
  • Serving food and beverages
  • Assisting passengers with special needs
  • Responding to emergencies and providing first aid if necessary
  • Completing flight reports
  • Collaborating with pilots and ground crew
  • Managing in-flight sales
  • Ensuring compliance with aviation regulations

When detailing your experience as a flight attendant, focus on resume accomplishments and responsibilities that demonstrate your skills and value. Here's what to include:

  • Specific airlines you've worked for
  • Types of aircraft you're experienced with
  • Routes you've served (domestic, international, long-haul)
  • Safety and emergency procedures you're proficient in
  • Customer service achievements
  • Any leadership or training roles you've held
  • Quantifiable achievements (e.g., customer satisfaction scores, safety record)

Sky Express

2019 - 2022

  • Flew on planes
  • Served drinks and snacks
  • Helped passengers
  • Did safety stuff

This example is too vague and doesn't provide any specific information about the candidate's skills or achievements. The language is informal ("safety stuff") and doesn't convey professionalism. Always be specific about your duties, use professional language, and highlight any achievements or special skills you've developed.

  • Lead cabin crew team on long-haul international flights, serving up to 300 passengers per flight
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight safety briefings and oversee emergency procedure demonstrations
  • Mentor and train new flight attendants, improving team performance by 20%
  • Consistently maintain a 98% passenger satisfaction rating
  • Received "Safety First" award in 2021 for quick thinking during an in-flight medical emergency

This example effectively showcases the candidate's leadership skills, attention to safety, and commitment to customer satisfaction. The use of specific numbers (300 passengers, 98% satisfaction rating) adds credibility to the claims. The mention of an award highlights exceptional performance.

If you're new to the aviation industry and have no work experience , focus on transferable skills and relevant experiences. Here's how to create an effective resume:

  • Highlight customer service experience from other industries
  • Emphasize soft skills like communication, teamwork , and problem-solving
  • Include any travel experience or language skills
  • Mention relevant certifications or training (e.g., First Aid, CPR)
  • Include volunteer work or extracurricular activities that demonstrate relevant skills
  • Use a functional resume format to highlight skills over experience

Here's an example of how to present your experience when you're new to the field:

Retail Store

01/2020 - Present

  • Provide excellent customer service to 50+ customers daily in a fast-paced environment
  • Resolve customer complaints with patience and empathy, maintaining a 95% satisfaction rate
  • Collaborate with a diverse team to ensure smooth store operations
  • Received "Employee of the Month" award for outstanding customer service (March 2021)

Local Community Center

  • Assist in organizing multicultural events, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and event planning skills
  • Provide language support for non-English speaking community members, showcasing bilingual abilities

This example effectively highlights transferable skills such as customer service, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity. The use of specific achievements (95% satisfaction rate, award) adds credibility. The volunteer experience demonstrates relevant soft skills and language abilities, which are valuable for flight attendants.

Where to list your education

When you apply to be a flight attendant, think about what you want the hiring manager to see first. If you are new to the workforce or just finished your studies, place your education section at the top of your resume. This will show your most recent training and relevant coursework related to customer service or hospitality, which is good for this job.

If you have been working for some time, your experience should come first. Show your background in service or safety roles, if you have it. Only include education later on the resume, especially if it directly relates to being a flight attendant. For example, a degree in hospitality or a first aid certification are strong points. Remember, the goal is to make it easy for hiring managers to see why you are fit for the job.

Highlight language skills

You should emphasize any multilingual abilities on your resume. Employers value flight attendants who can communicate with a diverse range of passengers.

Consider listing your language proficiency levels and any relevant certifications. This can make your application stand out.

Senior Flight Attendant Resume Sample

Ideal resume length.

Keep your resume to one page, if possible. As a flight attendant applicant, highlight your most relevant experiences and skills. Focus on recent roles and significant achievements in customer service and safety procedures. Show that you understand and can handle the responsibilities of cabin crew work.

For those with extensive experience that spans more than ten years, a two-page resume can be suitable. On your resume, prioritize recent and relevant roles, such as those that demonstrate your ability to ensure passenger comfort and manage in-flight situations. Ensure that your most important information is on the first page since hiring managers often only quickly scan the initial page.

Junior Flight Attendant Resume Sample

Show customer service experience.

Highlight your customer service experience in your resume. You need to demonstrate your ability to handle difficult situations and provide excellent service.

Include specific examples of how you have positively impacted customers in previous roles. This can be a key factor in hiring decisions.

Flight Attendant with Multilingual Specialization Resume Sample

Use relevant keywords.

Make sure your resume includes keywords that match the job description. Applicant tracking systems scan for these keywords to determine if you are a good fit for the job. Use words like "customer service," "safety procedures," and "emergency response" if they are mentioned in the job posting.

Also, use industry-specific terms. For example, mention "cabin crew" experience or "in-flight services" to show you understand the job. This will help your resume get past initial screenings.

Aspiring Flight Attendant Resume Sample

Make your resume fit.

To get the job as a flight attendant, show how your past experience fits. Think about the special skills and tasks you've done before that match what a flight attendant does. Show you know about safety, service, and teamwork.

  • Highlight any experience you have in customer service, like helping people or dealing with tough problems.
  • Point out times you were part of a team. Use words that show how you work with others, like collaborated or supported .
  • If you are changing careers, find parts of your past work that are like what a flight attendant does. For example, if you have ever made sure people were safe or followed strict rules, talk about that.

Lead Cabin Crew Supervisor Resume Sample

Essential skills for flight crew.

When you're applying to be a flight attendant, your resume should showcase specific skills that match the demands of the job. Here is a list of skills you should consider including:

  • Customer service
  • Safety protocols
  • Emergency procedures
  • FAA regulations
  • Flight operation knowledge
  • Announcement delivery
  • Evacuation management
  • Food and beverage handling
  • CPR certification

These skills show your expertise in areas that are critical for a flight attendant. You should include them in the skills section of your resume or mention them throughout your work experience details. Remember, applicant tracking systems (ATS) often scan for specific keywords, so including these terms can help your resume get noticed.

You don't need to have every skill listed, but focus on those that best align with your experience. For instance, if you've had training in FAA regulations and safety protocols , these are valuable to highlight. Flight crews must often manage diverse situations, so showing your knowledge in these areas can set you apart from other candidates.

Flight Services Manager Resume Sample

Quantify your impact.

When crafting your resume, showing your impact with numbers can make a big difference. As someone who's helped people get hired, I know that metrics can help you stand out. Here's how you can do it:

  • Think about the number of passengers you've assisted on average per flight. For example, 'Assisted an average of 150 passengers per flight, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience.'
  • Consider the customer satisfaction scores or feedback you've received. If you've been commended for your service, you could write, 'Achieved a customer satisfaction score of 95% over six months.'

Even if you're not sure about exact numbers, estimate based on your experience. For example:

  • If you've helped reduce boarding times, you might say, 'Implemented a new boarding procedure that reduced average boarding time by 5 minutes .'
  • If you've led safety demonstrations, mention how often and for how many flights, like, 'Led 200+ in-flight safety demonstrations, ensuring passenger compliance with safety regulations.'

Airline Safety Compliance Specialist Resume Sample

Tailoring your resume for company size.

When you're aiming to join the cabin crew, your resume should reflect the scale of the company. For smaller airlines like regional carriers, you might stress your adaptability and hands-on experience. You could say, 'Skilled in providing personalized customer service on boutique airlines.' This shows you're ready for the close-knit environment of a smaller team.

For larger airlines such as Delta or United, emphasize your ability to follow strict procedures and work within a large, structured team. Here, you can use a phrase like, 'Experienced in ensuring passenger safety and comfort on high-capacity flights' to demonstrate that you can handle the demands of a busy, international airline.

What Matters Most: Your Entry-Level Flight Attendant Skills & Experience

Your resume skills and work experience

Safety and passenger experience are always top priorities. You’ll want to show airlines you have the right skills to perform the related tasks effectively.

Entry-level candidates often find it difficult to pick the right skills to list. That said, you still have a lot to choose from. Think back to your time preparing to get FAA certified and the key skills you learned in CPR and flight safety.

Also, consider any previous work experience that will translate to the position, like working in retail and providing great customer service or managing a tight schedule.

The following entry-level flight attendant skills are most in demand in 2024.

9 top entry-level flight attendant skills

  • Ramp Service
  • Food & Beverage Prep
  • Pre-flight Briefings
  • Emergency Care
  • Safety Compliance

Sample entry-level flight attendant work experience bullet points

Examples of your past work achievements will help airlines feel more comfortable bringing you on board. Showing how you’ve implemented aspects like customer service and safety will be key here.

While you may not have much in terms of in-air experience attending flights, you can still pull lots of relevant examples from previous work and education that showcase your skills.

For instance, if you worked at a restaurant taking orders and performing food and beverage prep for hundreds of customers per day, that would translate to many of your tasks as a flight attendant.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Provided customers with clear instructions to help entrance lines move 20% faster.
  • Built a friendly rapport with customers while answering questions and concerns to improve satisfaction scores by 52%.
  • Took orders and assisted in food prep with 99% order accuracy and always complied with top food safety protocols to maintain Grade A health inspection scores.
  • Scored a 98% overall grade on FAA flight safety and CPR/AED certifications by diligently studying course materials to provide the best passenger experience.
  • Used Crew Rest to manage breaks and schedules to increase efficiency by 70%.

Top 5 Tips for Your Entry-Level Flight Attendant Resume

  • Many applying to an entry-level attendant position won’t have much experience. An objective statement can help present your abilities to perform well in the position. For instance, you could explain how you’re a motivated professional with three years of customer service experience.
  • All flights need attendants who provide friendly service while having high levels of technical ability. You can use both in examples for the most impact, like how you explained technical safety procedures to customers and helped with any concerns during the flight.
  • Using action words like “assisted” or “prepared” in your descriptions provides more impact. For instance, you could say you “assisted all passengers by taking food orders and prepared them with 99 percent accuracy.”
  • Flight attendants manage many details that contribute to the success of flights. Submit a resume free of grammatical errors to provide a professional first impression and showcase your abilities to handle information accurately, like notifying passengers before upcoming turbulence or scheduling updates.
  • Quantifying your flight attendant training and past work can feel challenging, but there are many metrics you can use to prove your impact. For instance, you can say how following updated safety procedures reduced accidents by 22 percent and improved satisfaction scores by 37 percent.

A one-page resume is the optimal length for entry-level flight attendant resumes. You want everything included to be concise and relevant. For example, one sentence on how you used your CPR/AED knowledge to attend to over 100 passenger medical needs in your career can go a long way.

Include any examples from previous work experience that will be the most relevant. If you have five years of retail customer service experience with thousands of five-star customer satisfaction ratings on surveys, that’ll help show your ability to provide outstanding flight service.

Including hobbies/interests can be a good idea in entry-level positions to provide more depth about your top skills. For instance, if you enjoy volunteering at a local nursing home on weekends, that can underscore your ability to provide passengers excellent care on flights.

Why This Resume Works

This resume is effective for entry-level flight attendants because it frames past work experience as a stepping stone to being a successful flight attendant and lists diverse and relevant skills. Both work experience examples listed on this resume showcase organization and communication skills  with an emphasis on helping customers.

The work experiences listed show that the candidate knows how to calmly and efficiently navigate customer complaints and problems without badmouthing the company or asking for help. The experience also exhibits an independent drive to make improvements that will enhance the customer experience.

Senior flight attendant resumes are different from entry-level, as the experience and skills will be more relevant and honed. An effective senior flight attendant resume will list all flight experience with some information on hours in the air and safety protocols .

Below is a stellar example of a senior flight attendant resume that includes impressive and relevant information for an employer to consider.

This resume is effective because it shows a focus on customer satisfaction, teamwork, and safety. Senior flight attendants are responsible for the behavior and service of other flight attendants on the plane and the overall atmosphere of the cabin.

The work experience listed here exemplifies strong leadership skills  that were honed over time as a flight attendant. Senior flight attendants must be assertive and confident without being rude or commanding, and this resume shows this quality in the work experience and skills sections.

The hours of flight time listed in the first work experience example gives the employer an idea of how much in-flight experience the candidate has, as this is often a major consideration when hiring a senior flight attendant.

Overall, the resume works because it’s packed with impressive information, such as education, certifications, and work experience. A senior flight attendant’s resume should be robust and detail all their airline experience.

Corporate flight attendants work on private jets and business flights, not commercial flights. This type of position requires more attention to detail and professionalism, as corporate flights often carry high-profile people like celebrities and politicians, so a higher level of decorum is necessary. Below is a stellar example of a corporate flight attendant resume.

This resume is ideal for corporate flight attendants because it emphasizes professionalism and discretion when catering to famous or important people. Corporate and private flights are all about offering passengers a luxury experience with privacy.

Mentioning catered menus, codes of conduct, and VIP treatment will make this resume stand out to corporate airlines that want to offer guests royal treatment. However, the resume also mentions safety procedures multiple times, exemplifying the candidate’s aircraft and equipment safety knowledge.

The skills section also mentions attention to detail and cultural awareness, two very important skills for flight attendants who may serve businessmen from around the world or foreign celebrities with high standards. Overall, this resume is compelling because it touches upon all the most important aspects of a private flight.

Believe it or not, the waitress-to-flight-attendant pipeline is a popular and viable career move. The job of a flight attendant is more complex than a server with aircraft safety and emergency protocols, but many of the required skills for these two professions overlap.

You need to be professional, friendly, attentive and organized to be successful in either position. If you want to move from a waitress position to a flight attendant, you may have questions about setting up your resume. Read the resume below to understand how to make the connection between your work experience and your new career objective.

As you can see, this resume places a strong emphasis on customer service, teamwork, and organization, all of which are necessary to be a successful flight attendant. The tip percentages showcase how the candidate served customers to their satisfaction, resulting in a generous tip.

The number of tables served at once shows the candidate’s capacity to multitask and serve many people simultaneously. The resume works because it ties the skills of a server and the skills of a flight attendant together, presenting the candidate as an optimal hire.

Delta is one of the most difficult airlines to get hired with, as they have rigorous standards and expectations. According to the head of Delta talent acquisition, only 0.5%  of all flight attendant applicants are hired.

But it’s also one of the best airlines to work for, as they have admirable benefits, salaries, and working conditions. If you want to try and land a job as a Delta flight attendant, use the resume below as a reference.

Delta gets so many applications for flight attendant positions, so the only way to get hired is to stand out from the crowd. This resume is perfect for a position at Delta because it captures the spirit of initiative and professionalism, two important values to Delta.

It also gives real anecdotes about helping passengers and showing compassion for others. Language skills and certifications will also go a long way with Delta, so don’t leave any certifications or similar information out.

Tips for Writing a Better Flight Attendant Resume 500w

If you’re still struggling to make your resume unique and noticeable, below are a few helpful tips.

Don’t include anything on your resume that is significantly outdated or irrelevant. For example, if you worked in construction 10+ years ago, this is neither relevant nor timely to include.

Knowing how to list the correct amount of experience  can be challenging, but a good rule of thumb is no more than three jobs back and no more than 10 or 15 years. Outdated or irrelevant experience will be disregarded by employers and may make it seem like you’re trying to beef up an otherwise weak resume.

However, before you leave a specific work experience off your resume, consider if any of the skills required for that job can translate to a flight attendant position.

A great deal of being a flight attendant has to do with your personality. Flight attendants are expected to be warm, kind, and calm, so you can make your resume stand out by showing this in your writing.

While some resumes may not benefit from listing “friendly” as a skill, a flight attendant’s resume will be improved by it, as it’s an essential aspect of the job. You can use light, professional humor if you like, and express your enthusiasm for customer service and satisfaction.

The best flight attendants always put the passenger first unless it’s a safety issue. Try to word your resume so that it’s apparent that you care for every customer you serve, whether they’re a lovely person or a troublemaker. Flight attendant employers want to hire candidates who understand the importance of giving each passenger a superb experience through attentive service and positive interactions. If you can make the employer see how much you value and care for every passenger, you will be more likely to get the job. A customer service-forward resume will show a sense of pride in excellent service.

Aside from customer service, safety is another top priority for airlines and flight attendants. Your resume should also reflect how seriously you take the safety of your coworkers and customers. Displaying a clear knowledge of best safety practices and your commitment to safety can make your resume stand out.

If you have any relevant stories about a time when you exhibited excellent safety practices or navigated a dangerous situation well will boost the validity of your claims. You want to convey a superb safety consciousness, as this will make the employer and airline feel confident in hiring you.

Solid examples of difficult scenarios you navigated well are a brilliant addition to your flight attendant resume.

For example, if you’ve worked as a flight attendant before, a brief anecdote about how you calmed a nervous passenger or resolved an inter-passenger dispute displays your capabilities as an attendant. Don’t be afraid to give specifics, as this will make your resume more memorable and captivating.

But you can use scenarios from other professions as long as they’re relevant to the position you’re applying for. A story about solving a problem for a customer or handling a difficult communication situation can improve your resume too. Examples of prioritizing safety or improving safety practices will make you look like an asset to any airline!

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a couple of frequently asked questions that may help you craft your flight attendant resume.

There are many valuable skills a professional flight attendant should have, but the most important one is likely poise. A poised individual demonstrates excellent communication, patience, and tact, never getting worked up or flustered, and remaining confident in troubling situations. If you have poise, you are already showcasing several important skills.

The best objective to list on a flight attendant’s resume is sparkling customer service. As a flight attendant, your main job is serving passengers and maintaining a calm and friendly atmosphere. Listing your main objectives as customer satisfaction and positive interactions shows how much you value every passenger’s experience.

Below are some similar types of resumes for reference. Being a flight attendant requires top-notch customer service, a clear understanding of operations, and even a sales mentality! So, reviewing the resumes below can help you improve your flight attendant resume.

  • Sales Resume : A sales resume  is similar to a flight attendant resume because it needs to highlight effective communication and professionalism.
  • Customer Service Resume : Customer service is most of what flight attendants do, so a customer service resume  will share many similar features as a flight attendant resume.
  • Operations Manager Resume: Like flight attendant resumes, an operations manager resume  must show skills such as organization, leadership, teamwork, and time management.

Your main takeaways from these resume examples should be that airlines want flight attendants who value customer service and safety.

Always aim to make your resume emphasize these qualities so you look like the perfect candidate for the job. While a full resume can be impressive, don’t include anything irrelevant that will weaken the best aspects of your resume.

But if you have a passion for customer service and a compassionate, friendly demeanor, ensure this shines through on your resume, as those personality traits will help you get noticed in the stack of flight attendant resumes.

Demonstrating strong customer service skills in your resume objective can show potential employers that you are capable of maintaining high levels of passenger satisfaction and safety.

7. In-flight Entertainment Systems

Common Mistakes When Writing a Flight Attendant Resume Objective

A Flight Attendant resume objective is a critical part of the resume that can make or break an applicant’s chances of securing an interview. It should be written in such a way that it captures the attention of the hiring manager and succinctly outlines why you are the ideal candidate for the job. Unfortunately, many applicants make common mistakes when writing their objective statements that can detract from their qualifications and hinder their job search.

The most fundamental mistake is failing to tailor the objective specifically to the job. Generic objectives such as “seeking a flight attendant position” are not effective because they do not demonstrate your knowledge of or enthusiasm for the role. Instead, you should craft an objective that reflects your understanding of what flight attendants do and how you would excel in the role. For example, “Seeking a Flight Attendant position where I can use my exceptional customer service skills to ensure passengers have a safe and enjoyable journey” is much more specific and engaging than a generic statement.

Another common mistake is including irrelevant information in your objective statement. The purpose of this section is to provide insight into why you should be hired; it should not be used as an opportunity to list every single one of your qualifications or experiences. Before writing your objective, think about which qualities are most relevant to the job and focus on those in particular rather than trying to include too much information. Additionally, avoid using overly technical language or jargon – keep it simple so that anyone reading your resume can understand it easily.

Finally, some applicants forget to include any call-to-action at all in their objectives. A strong call-to-action encourages employers to take action by either giving you an interview or inviting you for further discussion about the role. Examples could include phrases such as “Invite me for an interview so I can share my ideas on how I will exceed expectations in this role” or “Let me show you why I am perfect for this position during our interview”. These statements demonstrate confidence in yourself and set yourself apart from other candidates who may have simply listed their qualifications without providing any indication of enthusiasm for the role itself.

In conclusion, crafting a strong Flight Attendant resume objective requires careful consideration and attention to detail if it is going to be effective at capturing an employer's attention and increasing your chances of securing an interview. Avoiding these common mistakes will help ensure that yours stands out from other applicants and gives you the best chance possible at landing your dream job!

  • Greeted customers
  • Help look after the first-class cabin

Yes, it says what the candidate did, but not very well.

Here’s an improved rewrite :

  • Mentored and supervised junior cabin crew in flight.
  • Worked with first-class passengers to ensure comfort and satisfaction, advising on menu and entertainment choices.
  • Communicated details between flight deck and cabin to crew and passengers to ensure safety.
  • Assured passenger safety following industry best practice and protocols.

  • Managed front of house with up to 120 covers per shift in a busy, tourist-focused restaurant.
  • Excelled in customer service, working with large bookings and events to create the desired atmosphere.

Flight Attendant Resume Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. which certifications apply to flight attendants.

Strive to obtain several credentials to validate your ability to maintain excellent customer service standards as a flight attendant. Here are good options to better your resume:

  • Travel and Tourism Professional( TTP) Certification – Flight attendants spend thousands of hours tending to the needs of travelers. This certification offered by the International Air Transport Organization is an excellent option for international flight attendants as it provides the skills and knowledge needed to maximize career opportunities. It has to be renewed every two years.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Instructor – This certification covers the latest skills and techniques needed to respond to emergencies. It is offered by the National Safety Council and does not require periodic renewal as opposed to the first.
  • Certified Travel Associate – The Certified Travel Associate program by The Travel Institute covers areas such as the closure of sales, efficiency improvement, and fine-tuning of customer service skills, making it a good option for flight attendants. It requires yearly renewal

Ensure you acquire at least one certification to stay competitive in the job market.

2. How Do I Become a Flight Attendant?

Even though a degree in marketing, tourism, hospitality, public relations, or communications is preferable, you don’t need one to become a flight attendant. However, you must have a high school diploma or GED. Focus on gaining experience in job-related industries such as sales, hospitality, and customer service and building on your customer service and problem-solving skills in the process.

The following steps are to look for open flight attendant positions and prepare your resume, highlighting excellent customer care skills and the ability to work well under pressure. If you are lucky enough, you will be shortlisted for an interview and trained upon passing. Almost every airline has a 3-6 weeks training window where you learn how to handle emergencies, make announcements, and perform routine jobs. The last step is to get your FAA certificate of demonstrated proficiency from the Federal Aviation Administration and begin flying.

3. Which Are Some of the Keywords that I Must Include in My Resume?

Your resume should have the right number of keywords matching the job posting. These can be job-related skills, tools, and abilities targeted by employers. Here are some of the most common ones: customer service, hospitality, bilingual, emergency response, guest service, interpersonal skills, evacuation management, compliance, first aid, safety orientation, PA announcements, safety, customer satisfaction, comfort, reassuring, intercom, CPR, emergency procedures, bridge maintenance, inventory control, etc. Ensure that these keywords are well-spread throughout your resume.

Include several action words in your resume. To highlight your customer service skills, use words such as explained, mediated, resolved, assisted, aided, enhanced, presented, handled, helped, listened, resolved, enabled, and advocated. For teamwork, use words such as coached, motivated, suggested, joined, collaborated, coached, coordinated, discussed, inspired, involved, and participated.

4. Which Technical Skills Should I Include in My Resume?

Show the hiring manager that you have what it takes to succeed by mentioning as many job-specific skills as possible. However, review the job posting once more to identify the essential technical skills. Remember, your resume must match the job listing to increase your chances of being shortlisted.

Here are a few skills to include in your resume: excellent inventory control skills, knowledge and understanding of counter-terrorism measures, ability to administer first aid during emergencies, intercom operation and management skills, emergency procedures mastery, bridge maintenance, ability to administer CPR, and knowledge of plane evacuation protocols.

5. What Are Some of the Tips for Writing a Good Flight Attendant Resume?

Writing the perfect resume doesn’t have to be difficult. First, you need a well-written professional profile summarizing your work experience, Skillset, and professional achievements. Remember to include your biggest and most important accomplishments here. Second, you must have important soft skills such as problem-solving, customer service, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution, as you will need them all the time.

Third, know how to format your resume. Your flight attendant resume should be divided into sections starting with your header, professional profile, work experience, education, skills, and certifications. You should also use the right font and font size, e.g., Times New Roman Font 12, and observe the right spacing. Lastly, proofread your resume and correct any errors that may have escaped you.

United airlines flight attendants vote to authorize strike: will it impact travel.

99.99% of flight attendants voted in favor of strike authorization.

ABCNews logo

United Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants, moved closer to a strike Wednesday after the union announced that 99.99% of service members voted in favor of strike authorization.

The vote included 90% of the United Airlines flight attendant staff.

Among the strike requests, flight attendants are demanding significant double-digit base pay increases, being compensated for time at work outside of flights, schedule flexibility and work rule improvements, job security, retirement and more, according to the union.

The historic vote marked the first time in 20 years that United flight attendants have authorized a strike, since the airline's 2005 bankruptcy negotiations.

However, a strike will not occur immediately and despite the vote, there will be no immediate disruptions to airline operations.

Experts say it's highly unlikely United flight attendants will actually walk off the job. There are a number of steps that must happen before a strike can take place and the President and Congress have the power to stall or stop an airline strike.

"To be clear, there is no work stoppage or labor disruption," United told ABC News in a statement Wednesday. "Off-duty flight attendants are simply exercising their right to conduct an informational picket."

The results of the strike authorization vote were announced as nearly 20 informational picket lines were seen at airports across the country.

"We deserve an industry-leading contract. Our strike vote shows we're ready to do whatever it takes to reach the contract we deserve," Ken Diaz, president of the United chapter of the Association of Flight Attendants, said in a statement Wednesday.

"We are the face of United Airlines and planes don't take off without us. As Labor Day travel begins, United management is reminded what's at stake if we don't get this done," he added.

After this week, the union walked away from federally mandated negotiations. The union will now ask the National Mediation Board to release them into a 30-day "cooling-off" period, which would set a potential strike deadline.

"The United management team gives themselves massive compensation increases while Flight Attendants struggle to pay basic bills," Diaz continued. "The 99.99% yes vote is a clear reminder that we are unified in the fight against corporate greed and ready to fight for our fair share of the profits we create."

Similar strike authorization votes have been cast at competing airlines including American, Alaska, Southwest, and more.

10 things you should never do on a flight, according to a former flight attendant

  • I was a flight attendant for two years , and I wish passengers would stop doing certain things.
  • It's pretty gross to go to the bathroom without shoes on or leave the toilet unflushed.
  • You make everyone's life harder when you bring too much luggage, and we can't help you lift it.

Insider Today

I worked as a flight attendant on domestic and international routes for two years, and I saw all kinds of behavior on planes.

Here are the top things you should never do on a flight.

The life vests under the seats aren't yours to steal

I never thought this would be a problem, but some people think a life vest would be a nice souvenir.

Not only is it stealing, but you could also be putting the next passenger sitting in that seat in danger.

Do not leave the toilet unflushed

If you don't know exactly how to use the airplane bathroom, don't be shy or embarrassed to ask your flight attendants.

You don't fly the plane every day, and there are so many buttons. But don't just leave and hope no one will notice.

The airplane is a very small space. We usually have one bathroom in the front and two in the back, so everyone can tell when you didn't flush.

It might not be a good idea to take medication that makes you sleep through the flight

When I started flying in 2019, I noticed a passenger looked unconscious to me. I tried to wake him up by shaking him, but he didn't respond, so I panicked and called my colleagues for help.

I was about to ask for a medical professional onboard or perform first aid. But it turned out a passenger was a heavy sleeper, and it looked like he'd used some sleeping medication.

You might not want to scare your crew by taking drowsy medication on a flight.

Related stories

Bringing too much luggage on the plane makes everyone's life harder

Some passengers are completely covered with sweat from carrying too many personal items, backpacks, and carry-ons.

It's so much easier to check your luggage and walk on the plane relaxed and stress-free.

Finding a space for everyone's bag is also not always possible, so your extra items may need to be checked regardless. If you're worried about paying extra, ask an attendant at the gate. They're usually happy to check it for free if the flight is full.

Never drink any personal alcohol on board

We catch people drinking mini bottles of alcohol all the time.

Even if you think there isn't a flight attendant around, you'd be surprised how often other passengers let us know.

It's prohibited, and if you're caught, you could be banned from future flights with the airline, so it's not worth the risk.

Crew members can't help you place your carry-on into the overhead bins

Sometimes, passengers ask flight attendants for help hoisting their carry-ons into the overhead bins. But that isn't part of a cabin crew's responsibility.

If the bag is too heavy, it's better to check it.

Don't go to the restroom when the flight attendants are performing a safety demonstration

It's OK to go to the restroom before takeoff. But when you see flight attendants performing a safety demonstration, you should stay seated and wait until the seatbelt sign is off.

When passengers get up during the safety demonstration, we need to stop, wait, and start from the beginning when everyone is back to their seats.

If it's an emergency, call a flight attendant over and we'll help you.

Using the seat-back trays without wiping them down isn't a good idea

You may think that people only place drinks on seat-back trays, but the person before you could've slept on it or used it to change a baby's diaper.

My airline hands out little alcohol wipes during boarding for a reason. Just give the tray a quick wipe when you sit down.

Never go to the restroom without shoes

The bathroom is probably the dirtiest place on the plane . And all the liquid you see on the floor isn't just water.

Plus, if you're just wearing socks, they'll be soaked. Who wants that for a whole flight?

Don't stay silent if you aren't feeling well

I've had passengers feeling lightheaded or having a panic attack, but they were too shy to tell anyone.

You don't have to quietly deal with pain or discomfort on your own until landing. Always tell your flight attendant. We might have the training or equipment that can help.
