Personal statement.

I am a dedicated, enthusiastic and cheerful individual who strives to deliver excellent patient care. I am highly motivated to begin my career within the Public Health sector with my passion for supporting and helping people from all ages and a variety of backgrounds. My greatest passion in life is to help people, and I get great satisfaction from seeing the positive change that I make in people’s lives; particularly in giving young children the best possible start in life. I believe this course would give me the perfect opportunity to develop and expand my skills and knowledge. I qualified as a Paediatric Nurse after studying at the University of Plymouth in September 2020 with my first job shortly after located at Derriford Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, this being my current place of work.

I currently work as a BAND5 public health nurse for Livewell Southwest, working into a developmental post in January 2023 to begin my health visitor training to then be qualified in December 2023. I absolutely love my job and always admire the Health visitors and I can’t wait to finally do what they do one day.

Throughout my training over a period of three years I had been provided with many opportunities to observe excellent care whilst expanding my knowledge. I have worked on both children and adolescent general medical wards, which have provided me with valuable skills and knowledge, thus enabling me to deliver a high standard of care to children with varying needs and their families. Furthermore, my favourite placement was with yourselves, having made great relationships with the staff and observed how imperative their role is in today's society. It has been a goal throughout my training and to become a health visitor and I hope you can give me the opportunity to start this exciting new venture.

During my time currently in the level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, I have learnt the importance of recognising and responding to a deteriorating infant. For example, I have been involved in emergency situations, such as intubation and rapid response situations. During these circumstances, I continue to maintain a calm and reassuring manner and continued to administer the appropriate treatment as qualified nurse. I have also been heavily involved in the breastfeeding initiative in NICU, it is something I am very passionate about and I hope to bring my skills and knowledge to those parents' in the community. Furthermore, I understand the importance of underpinning the healthy child program in my work and I look forward to learning more about the program and the importance of it in the UK.

I consistently act on initiative and hold very efficient time management and organisational skills in order to prioritise and manage workload effectively. I ensure essential tasks are carried out at the correct time along with the correct documentation. My job in the neonatal unit has allowed me to develop my confidence in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care, whilst being able deliver high quality care that is holistic and family centred. Throughout my work, it is strongly

evidenced that I have a very approachable, positive and compassionate nature. Staff and management feedback has consistently highlighted my attitude and ability to work very well in a multi- disciplinary team, respecting individuals and knowing to seek help from those with expanded medical knowledge regarding patient care.

My recent mission trip to South Africa with my local church enabled me to develop my communication skills with children of different ethnicities, thus providing me with confidence to care for those with different cultural beliefs and backgrounds. My attendance to local mother and baby clinics in very rural areas enabled me to develop strong and trusting relationships with vulnerable mothers, this enhanced my determination and reasons for pursuing children’s Nursing. During my training and current work, it has been highlighted by mentors, professionals and patients themselves that I have a natural ability and enjoyment in interacting with children and their families and would consistently go above and beyond to meet their needs. I very much believe that children should continue to be at the forefront of the care and this is paramount throughout nursing.

I am a conscientious individual who takes pride in knowing they consistently work to the best of their ability. I am fully aware as a Qualified Public Health Nurse I will be responsible and accountable for all my actions, therefore, I consciously work only in the best interests of the infant and within my competencies. I also understand the importance of keeping up to date with recent research and I will always ensure the care I provide is up to date and evidence-based.

I have also learnt the importance of being adaptable to change which I believe is imperative given the current Coronavirus pandemic. Over the past year, I have learnt the importance of working in somewhat understaffed environments and strict visiting policies for the unit, this taking it's toll on parents and us staff. It is vital that we come together as team and support each other through this, which looking forward I hope we will return to some sort of normality very soon.

I hope to continue my passion for Paediatric Nursing and to begin my training to become a qualified Health Visitor on completion of the course. I am excited to learn and later use my knowledge and skills in the community with also sharing and learning from others in the team. Health visiting is a lifelong experience and I would love to have the opportunity to start my career and build on the foundation and skills that I have learnt so far, using my passion and determination to care for children and families within the community environment. With Livewell Southwest being recognised throughout the country for the outstanding patient care that they provide, I would be delighted to have the opportunity to do the course and fulfil my dream of becoming a Health Visitor.

Mrs Diana Corbin Centre Manager Victoria Health Centre 78 Station Road Pershore PL6 9JB

Dear Mrs Corbin,

Re: Health Visitor (Ref: #779L)

It is with great interest that I am applying for the Heath Visitor position at Victoria Health Centre. I am convinced, as I hope you will too, that my formal education and work experience is a perfect match for this job.

I am currently working as a Health Visitor at the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where I have been working for the past 16 months. My key responsibilities include providing ante-natal and post-natal support, performing regular home visitors, resolving any health or upbringing concerns, liaising with health and social care professionals, and giving nutritional advice and support to parents. Before this, I was working as a Community Midwife for the same NHS Trust.

I am a hard-working, enthusiastic and friendly person with a passion for working with children and their parents or guardians. My excellent communication skills, combined with my outgoing personality, enable me to build strong relationships with people and make a positive impact on families’ lives. I am methodical, work well under pressure, and I have my own method of transportation.

Victoria Health Centre is a trusted and reputable health clinic in the county, and it would be a privilege to work for your organisation and provide quality service to the community.

I would like to finish by saying that I really appreciate your time, and I would be immensely grateful if you could give me a chance to meet you in person to further discuss this opportunity. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope to hear from you shortly.

Yours sincerely,
