  • Use proper structure for your story: Your essay should start with an introduction that should provide a brief overview of the points you'll be discussing in greater detail within the body of the essay. The main body of the essay should consist of some paragraphs. The number of paragraphs will depend on how many points you have to make or topics you need to cover. There should be a paragraph or two for each of the points mentioned in your introduction. Your essay should end with a strong conclusion. The conclusion should be a short paragraph that re-iterates your main points.

Essay format SSC CHSL

  • Address Heading – Writer’s Full Address
  • Inside Address – Recipient Full Name and Address
  • Greeting – Dear [name of recipient]
  • Subject Line – Main subject of the letter
  • Closing (“Yours truly”, “Sincerely”, “Regards”, ‘Yours faithfully’)
  • Write good introduction: Writing good introduction will help you to grab the examiner’s attention. The examiner will then be curious to read your whole story which will eventually lead you to good marks.
  • Revise Statistics and Facts: This technique will help you to write good and meaningful essays in less time. Providing good facts statistics in the essay will provide strength to your story.
  • Try to be precise and stick to the word limit: Avoid long sentences and try to be precise in your writing. Long sentence makes it difficult to engage the examiner. Also, avoid useless facts and do not exaggerate any point. Try to write small paragraphs, which is easy to read.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 2016: Tips for writing essay

This exam is one hour long where students will be evaluated on their writing ability..

Listen to Story

SSC CHSL Tier 2 2016

Over 60 thousand students were selected for the tier 2 exam, which is scheduled on September 18. This exam is one hour long where students will be evaluated on their writing ability. The paper will consist of an essay of 200 - 250 words and a letter of 150 - 200 words. This is the first time that the SSC has introduced a descriptive test as a part of the selection procedure. The exam will be in a 'pen' and 'paper' format.

  • The essay and letter writing tests are designed to evaluate students at 2 levels - firstly the examiner wants to understand how informed the student is about key events happening in her environment and what kind of opinion the student is able to form around these events.
  • Secondly, the goal is to judge the written communication skills of the students and ascertain she will be able to communicate effectively and carry her duties properly.
  • SSC has not declared what type of topics will be there for essay writing. It can be anticipated that topics around national interest, ecological issues, social issues etc are likely to be important. Topics such as - women empowerment, dowry system, environment, Indian economy, gender equality, farmer condition in India, terrorism, GST bill - may be important from that perspective. It would be beneficial to practice these topics and ensure all the key points are getting covered.
  • The key to writing a good essay is to first get your thoughts about the topic in a structure. Once you jot down the key points you wish to convey, use them to build the body of the essay where your points and the arguments supporting them should be written. Once the core idea is there, then write the introduction and lastly make the conclusion.
  • In the letter, the first important piece is to get the format right. Make sure to, from, subject, address, salutation etc. are in place before you start writing the body of the letter. Letter writing may consist of both formal and informal letters. Here are a few examples that may be important from the exam's perspective.

Formal letters: o Writing a letter to Bank manager for account closing o Writing a letter to SSC Head office regarding Exam date o Writing an application to your boss for leave Informal letter: o Writing a letter to your friend thanking him for a gift o Writing a letter to your father about your result
