CBSE Sample Papers Class 9 Mathematics

As discussed, CBSE does not conduct board exams for class 9 students. It is purely a home exam. But schools have to follow the guidelines issued by CBSE while preparing the question paper. It is necessary to assure uniformity in terms of difficulty level and format of the question paper.

General Instructions:

• This Question Paper has 5 Sections A-E.
• Section A has 20 MCQs carrying 1 mark each.
• Section B has 5 questions carrying 02 marks each.
• Section C has 6 questions carrying 03 marks each.
• Section D has 4 questions carrying 05 marks each.
• Section E has 3 case based integrated units of assessment (04 marks each) with subparts of the values of 1, 1 and 2 marks each respectively.

• We have AX = CY [Given] Now, by Euclid’s axiom 6, we have things which are double of the same thing are equal to one another, so 2AX = 2CY Hence, AC = BC. [ {tex}\because{/tex} X and Y are the mid- points of AC and BC]
• (i) (+, +) are the signs of the co-ordinates of points in the I quadrant. ∴ A(1, 1) lies in the I quadrant. (ii) (–, –) are the signs of the co-ordinates of points in the III quadrant. ∴ B(–2, –4) lies in the III quadrant. (iii) (+, –) are the signs of the co-ordinates of points in the IV quadrant. ∴ C(1, –2) lies in the IV quadrant.

Section C Sample Paper Solution

• Given, {tex}\sqrt{2}{/tex}   = 1.4142 Now,  {tex}\sqrt{\frac{\sqrt{2}-1}{\sqrt{2}+1}}=\sqrt{\frac{(\sqrt{2}-1)}{(\sqrt{2}+1)} \times \frac{(\sqrt{2}-1)}{(\sqrt{2}-1)}}{/tex}  [by rationalising] {tex}=\sqrt{\frac{(\sqrt{2}-1)^{2}}{2-1}}=\frac{\sqrt{(\sqrt{2}-1)^{2}}}{1}{/tex}  [ {tex}\because{/tex} (a + b)(a – b) = a 2  – b 2 ] {tex}=\sqrt{2}{/tex}  – 1 = 1.4142 – 1 [ {tex}\because \sqrt{2}{/tex} = 1.4142] = 0.4142
• In order to prove that BE is the median, it is sufficient to show that E is the mid-point of AC. Now, AD is the median in {tex}\triangle{/tex} ABC {tex}\Rightarrow{/tex}  D is the mid-point of BC. Since DE is a line drawn through the mid-point of side BC of  {tex}\triangle{/tex} ABC and is parallel to AB (given). Therefore, E is the mid-point of AC. Hence, BE is the median of {tex}\triangle{/tex} ABC.
• We have the equation as 3x + 2y = 18 In standard form 3x + 2y – 18 = 0 Or 3x + 2y + (-18) =0 But standard linear equation is ax + by + c = 0 On comparison we get, a = 3, b = 2, c = -18 If (4, 3) lie on the line, i.e., solution of the equation LHS = RHS {tex}\therefore{/tex}  3(4) + 2(3) = 18 12 + 6 = 18 18 = 18 As LHS = RHS, Hence (4, 3) is the solution of given equation. Again for (1,2) 3x + 2y = 18 {tex}\therefore{/tex}  3(1)+2(2)=18 3 + 4 = 18 7 = 18 LHS  {tex}\neq{/tex}  RHS Hence (1, 2) is not the solution of given equation. Therefore (4,3) is the point where the equation of the line 3x + 2y = 18 passes through where as the line for the equation 3x + 2y =18 does not pass through the point (1,2).

The tech layoff wave is still going strong in 2024. Following significant workforce reductions in 2022 and 2023 , this year has already seen 60,000 job cuts across 254 companies, according to independent layoffs tracker Layoffs.fyi . Companies like Tesla , Amazon , Google , TikTok , Snap and Microsoft have conducted sizable layoffs in the first months of 2024. Smaller-sized startups have also seen a fair amount of cuts, and in some cases, have shut down operations altogether .

By tracking these layoffs, we’re able to understand the impact on innovation across companies large and small. We’re also able to see the potential impact of businesses embracing AI and automation for jobs that had previously been considered safe. It also serves as a reminder of the human impact of layoffs and what could be at stake in regards to increased innovation.

Agility Robotics

Has laid off a “small number” of employees as part of a company-wide focus on commercialization efforts.

Ghost Autonomy

Shut down operations. The company, which was backed by OpenAI, employed about 100 people .

Is shutting down Yummly , the recipe and cooking app it acquired in 2017.

Will cut hundreds of jobs across Sales, Marketing, Global Services and its Physical Stores Technology team.

Byju’s

Is laying off about 500 employees , accounting for 3% of its total workforce, as part of a restructuring effort.

Has laid off 20% of its staff after acquiring point-of-sale platform Cuboh. The company previously laid off 100 people in 2022.

Nintendo of America

Is restructuring its testing department, which is largely made up of contractors. A Nintendo spokesperson told Kotaku the changes will end some assignments but will lead to the creation of new full-time positions.

Cut its global workforce by about 6,000 jobs , according to a 10-K SEC filing . The filing reveals the company cut 13,000 jobs in the last year .

Has made cuts to its staff, the company confirmed to TechCrunch . A report in Fintech Business Weekly estimates that 17 people, or about 15% of the company, were impacted. 

Is cutting 195 roles in an effort to become more sustainable, CEO Henry Chan wrote in a blog post . The layoffs impact nearly a quarter of its staff.

Reportedly eliminated 20% of its total workforce in its second restructuring effort in the past year.

Chipper Cash

Conducted another round of layoffs impacting 20 employees, CEO Ham Serunjogi announced in a blog post . 

Has reportedly cut 16% of its staff in a strategic move to support its Textio Lift product. 

Is reportedly laying off around 25% of its workforce . According to Axios, the cuts affect roughly 80 people.

Phantom Auto

Is shutting down after failing to secure new funding, TechCrunch has learned . The remote driving startup, which had cut staff last year, employed a little more than 100 people.

Is reportedly slashing its marketing and communications staff. The company previously announced a strategy to replace upwards of 8,000 jobs with AI.

Inscribe.ai

Cut just under 40% of its staff, equating to dozens of employees, the company confirmed to TechCrunch .

Laid off around 15 people earlier this year , following comments from CEO Chris Caren that the company would be able to reduce 20% of its headcount thanks to AI.

Laid off 13% of its staff based in its New York office as the web3 fantasy sports platform focuses on its Paris headquarters, a source familiar with the matter told TechCrunch .

January 2024

Will lay off 95 workers in New York City, according to a filing with the New York Department of Labor.

Is laying off about 6% of its global workforce , or 280 employees, the company confirmed to TechCrunch.

Conducted another round of layoffs earlier this month, amounting to roughly 15% of its workforce, a source familiar with the situation told TechCrunch.

Chapter 1: matter in our surrounding.

The Class 9 science textbook starts with the chapter “Matter in Our Surroundings”. Everything that we see around us is made up of material which is called matter. These things occupy space and have mass. Earlier, Indian philosophers had classified matter into 5 basic elements called Panch Tatva – air, water, earth, sky and fire. Now, modern scientists have come up with 2 types of classification, i.e., based on physical property and chemical nature. In this chapter, students will learn about the physical properties of matter .

The matter is made up of particles and these particulars are very small. The particles of matter have space between them, they are continuously moving and attract each other. The matter around us exists in 3 different states – solids, liquids and gases. These states of matter arise due to variation in the characteristic of the particles of matter. All the 3 states of matters have been explained in-depth with the help of activities. Further, the textbook explains that the state of matter is inter-convertible. The state of matter can be changed by changing temperature or pressure. The phenomenon of change of a liquid into vapour at any temperature below its boiling point is called evaporation. The rate of evaporation depends upon the surface area exposed to the atmosphere, the temperature, the humidity and the wind speed. Evaporation also causes cooling.

Chapter 2: Is Matter Around Us Pure?
