Organisation profile

Our Strategic goal is to improve the healthcare experience and outcomes for patients and families, wherever they are cared for. We aim to be world leaders, pioneering the very best in nursing and midwifery care by intergrating:

  • Cutting edge research of the highest rigour to develop, evaluate and implement significant interventions and treatments, and build knowledge to transform and lead policy and practice
  • Skilled multi-professional care across the llifespan providing top quality evidence-based clinical care and support to patients
  • Innovation in education, training and engagement that advances policy and practice locally, nationally and globally, engaging patients and the public, whilst inspiring and equiping tomorrows leaders

The School has three main programmes of research activity which inform and improve health care and service delivery locally, nationally and internationally:

Patient and carer experience A programme of work that explores and seeks to improve the patient and carer experience of healthcare with a particular focus on cancer, mental health, diabetes and long-term conditions

Healthcare workforce, organisation and service delivery This programme of work contributes to the understanding of healthcare systems at regional, national and global levels, particularly with regard to equity, access to care and workforce issues. Within this the National Nursing Research Unit (NNRU)'s major policy research programme for the Department of Health examines how the organisation of the nursing workforce impacts upon service delivery and organisation within the NHS and beyond.

Health and wellbeing Public health and wellbeing is the focus of activity within this programme. This ranges from ensuring the safety and quality of care for women and their babies before, during and following birth and suporting individuals and families wellbeing through the long-term trajectory into older age and at end of life.

All our work is underpinned by three cross cutting principles:

  • engagement with patient and user perspectives
  • commitment to conceptual and methodological innovation
  • attention to the policy relevance and practical application of our findings

Program Overview

For individuals who are inspired by helping others, there are few career paths more rewarding than nursing. Nurses are at the front lines of critical medical care, often having the first and most frequent interactions with patients in need. And as healthcare challenges across the country expand, so do employment opportunities for professionals in this field.

A career in nursing opens the door to opportunities in Adult Health, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Psychiatry, and more. Key responsibilities include:

  • Promoting wellness and disease prevention
  • Providing education on chronic disease management
  • Coordinating regenerative and restorative care
  • Administering hospice and palliative care

According to the American Nurses Association (ANA), Registered Nurses (RNs) form the backbone of healthcare delivery in the United States. There are over 4 million RNs in the United States today, which means that 1 in every 100 people is an RN. Nurses are in every community—large and small—providing expert care from birth to the end of life. Employment of Registered Nurses is projected to grow 6% from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations.

  • FOI Request by Albert Warren.
  • Admissions Statistics . King's College London. October 2022.

The acceptance rate , or offer rate, represents the fraction of applicants who received an offer. Note that this will be generally lower the acceptances rates (acceptances divided by applicants) published by many other sources. This article explains it in more detail. The acceptances generally indicate the number of offer holders who accepted the offer and fulfilled its conditions. For some universities, however, it denotes the number of applicants who accepted the offer, regardless of whether they subsequently met its conditions.

Data Reliability

Unless otherwise noted, the data presented comes from the universities and is generally reliable. However, some of the differences between years and/or courses may be due to different counting methodologies or data gathering errors. This may especially be the case if there is a sharp difference from year to year. If the data does not look right, click the "Report" button located near the top of the page.

Course type

Please note that this programme will be open for applications on King's Apply from mid-March 2022. Qualified nurses provide, lead and coordinate care, and high-quality nursing care is key to the success of patient recovery. Having the right mix of knowledge and skills is therefore hugely important to ensure the people you care for have positive clinical outcomes. The Clinical Nursing MSc course is designed to help qualified healthcare practitioners further develop the knowledge and skills to research, manage and deliver healthcare practice and education. This course is delivered in a hybrid way, with both online delivery and the opportunity for some optional modules to be taken on campus if you wish.

Course details

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and self-study. Contact time is based on 24 academic weeks, whereas self-study time is based on 31 academic weeks. Typically, one credit equates to ten hours of work. We will use a delivery method that will ensure students have a rich, exciting experience from the start. Face to face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment.

Teaching and assessment

Your performance will be assessed through a combination of coursework and written/practical examinations. Forms of assessment may typically include written assignments such as essays and portfolios. The study time and assessment methods detailed above are typical and give you a good indication of what to expect. However, they may change if the course modules change.

The normal entry requirement for graduate study is a Bachelor's degree with minimum 2:1 honours. In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. Applicants who have already studied at a level equivalent to a UK Master's programme will be assessed primarily on the basis of achievement at this level and would be expected to demonstrate a clear pass (55% or above in the UK grading system). Applicants with other backgrounds or qualifications, including those without a first degree, can be considered: if you do not meet the normal entry requirements or you have only the minimum academic standard you should pay particular attention in preparing your supporting statement and CV to ensure that you draw attention to evidence of potential success at graduate level. This might include publications, preparation of substantial reports or active participation in service development initiatives or funded research.
