Using VULMS is a straightforward process. Follow these essential steps to seamlessly navigate vulms:

  • Launch your preferred web browser on your device.
  • Type “ vu-lms.pk ” in the search bar and press Enter.
  • On the homepage, locate and click on the “ VULMS Login ” button.
  • Input your assigned Student ID and Password in the provided fields. (The student ID and password will be emailed once your registration process is complete.)
  • Once your credentials are entered, click the “Login” button to access your personalized learning environment.

How to Use Vulms?

Upon logging in, the dashboard becomes the central hub, providing a quick overview of enrolled courses, announcements, and upcoming events. The “Home” tab displays a list of enrolled courses, each with its dedicated page for easy access and management. In the right corner, you’ll see your name, student ID, profile picture and the notice board icon.

The homepage has sections for assignments, Group Discussion Boards (GDB), quizzes, activities, and announcements for each subject. Students can submit assignments and take online quizzes following the given guidelines.

To navigate to a specific subject, simply click on it, and you’ll be directed to the dedicated subject page. These pages are information-packed, containing vital materials like video lectures, announcements, handouts, and Moderated Discussion Board. On these pages, students can easily access and engage with video lectures, download course-related resources such as lecture slides, and find supplementary materials.

Course Subject Overview

Accessing VU Lecture Videos

Virtual University offers multiple options for accessing course lectures:

  • TV Channels: Course lectures are broadcast on Virtual University’s TV channels, namely VTV1, VTV2, VTV3, and VTV4. Check your timetable on the “Lecture Schedule” tab in your Learning Management System (LMS) for channel information. If you encounter difficulties accessing these channels, kindly reach out to your local Cable Operator. The list of Cable Operators can be found on the VU homepage under Student Services.
  • YouTube Channel: Virtual University has a dedicated YouTube channel where you can conveniently view lectures at any time. Visit http://www.youtube.com/vu to access the lectures. The same link is accessible on the main VU website under “VU Lecture Videos.”
  • DVDs: For flexibility and independence from broadcast schedules and online bandwidth constraints, all VU courses are available on DVDs. These DVDs can be obtained from the Virtual University bookshop at a nominal cost. Each DVD contains a complete course.

Course Selection Guidelines for Associate Degree in Science

Course Selection

When students start their studies in the Associate Degree in Science program at Virtual University, they’ll require to select their courses for the current session. Let’s look at some rules and guidelines that help students choose their courses in a structured way, making sure they get the most out of their academic journey.

Specialization Areas

  • In the first semester, students are required to choose three specialization areas.
  • Each specialization necessitates the completion of four courses.

Credit Hour Limits

  • For the first semester, a maximum of 18 credit hours is allowed, and for the second semester, the limit is 17 credit hours, as per the study scheme.
  • From the third semester onwards, a maximum of 18 credit hours is allowed. However, in exceptional cases, enrollment may extend to 21 credit hours if the student’s CGPA is ≥ 3.00 out of 4.
  • In the final semester, a maximum of 21 credit hours is permissible, including the final project, provided all degree requirements are completed within the same semester.

Minimum Course Load

  • The minimum course load in a semester is determined by the study scheme, with a minimum of 03-credit hours in special circumstances.

Course Load Considerations

  • Students opting for a course load below the prescribed limit will require additional semesters to complete the curriculum, incurring additional costs.
  • Improvement of a grade below ‘B’ is allowed only once during the entire course work program.

Final Year Project Rules

  • The Final Year Project carries 03-Credit Hours and is offered in the fourth semester.
  • To enroll in the Final Project, students must have a CGPA of 2 or higher and have earned 48 or more credit hours.

Change of Specialization

  • Students can change their specialization from the second semester onward, provided they complete the foundation courses of the new specialization offered in the first semester.

Course Selection Procedure

  • Access the VULMS and click on the “Course Selection” button.
  • Navigate to the “Course Selection” link.
  • Prioritize “F” grade courses and consider improving “D” and “C” grades where possible.
  • Use check boxes to select courses.
  • Save the selection.
  • Changes in course selection can be made multiple times before the last date to add, drop, or replace courses.

Blocking Of Vulms Accounts

We would like to bring to your attention an important matter regarding your LMS (Learning Management System) accounts. Please be advised that failure to clear outstanding dues may result in the blocking of your VULMS account. In the event that your account is blocked, you will be unable to carry out various academic activities, including the creation of date sheet for the upcoming Mid Term and Final Term Exam.

In case your account gets blocked due to unpaid dues, don’t worry; once you pay your dues, the account will automatically be reopened.

Submitting your assignments

Throughout your studies you may complete individual or group assignments as assessment tasks toward your final mark.

All assessments are submitted online via VU Collaborate, unless directed to submit via an alternative method. Please refer to your unit or online space, or assessment booklet, for your assessment instructions, requirements, and submission process.

Plagiarism is 'a practice that involves the using of another person’s intellectual output and presenting it as one’s own'.

This includes the presentation of work that has been copied, in whole or part, from other sources (including other students’ work, published books or periodicals, or unpublished works or unauthorized collaboration with other persons), without due acknowledgement.

Strategies to avoid plagiarism include:

  • starting early! Mistakes often occur when you are rushed and there are no short cuts; remember, you may be penalised for incorrect referencing
  • consulting the referencing style guides for more information on which details you may need to include in your reference list; remember to check with your lecturer which referencing style they would prefer you to use
  • pre-submitting assignments to the Originality Check Test folder in the Student Induction Space; you can check your work using Ouriginal, a plagiarism detection tool.

Consequences of plagiarism

A student found guilty of plagiarism will be subject to one or all of the following:

  • Referral to Course Coordinator for: counselling; submission of further work; use of the services of Student Learning Unit; the placing of a record of the alleged infringement on the student’s file.
  • Referral of the matter to the Director of Teaching and Learning for: issuing of written warning; resubmission of work for assessment or the undertaking of another form of assessment such as an oral or unseen examination; allocation of a fail grade to part or all of the assessment; allocation a fail grade to the unit.
  • Referral of the matter to the Dean for: suspension from the course; official disciplinary action by the University Disciplinary Committee.

Getting Started

As in any conventional university, you will attend lectures, interact with your tutors and peers and take semester examinations – the big difference being the method used for these activities. Virtual University lectures are delivered through the use of broadcast television, DVDs and even the Internet. All student-teacher interaction takes place over the Internet using a comprehensive Learning Management System (VU-LMS) deployed for this purpose on VU's servers. Examinations are conducted in a formal proctored environment at designated centers across the country using software designed specially for this purpose by the Virtual University of Pakistan.

The Virtual University Learning Management System is a comprehensive software platform that allows students to manage their educational experience while studying at the University. The VU-LMS allows you to:

  • Maintain and update your personal information
  • Receive important announcements from the University
  • Maintain a personal diary and notes
  • View your lecture schedule
  • Read lecture notes
  • Download assignments and submit your solutions for grading
  • Ask questions from your tutors and receive replies to the same
  • Participate in quizzes and class discussions
  • View your results and monitor your academic progress through your grade book
  • View your fee status and download your fee vouchers for payment at the bank
  • Access a host of student services such as requesting for lost Id Cards etc.

You may want to refer to the Orientation CD that you received with your Admission Package for further information about the above features.

  • Watch the Orientation Video sent to you in the Admission Package. This video will give you an overview of the University, VU-LMS and the VU Exam system.
  • Now you should login using the login name and password provided to you by the University. Navigate through the various features of VU-LMS and familiarize yourself with them.

You should never share your password with anyone. Doing so may divulge your personal information that you may not have wanted to share. Remember: you will be held personally responsible for all actions performed through your LMS account.

  • In your LMS account you will see the courses you are registered for during the current semester.
  • When you enter each course's website, you will see a list of recommended books under the “Books” tab. You are urged to obtain the recommended books since they will help you achieve a deeper understanding of the subject material.
  • Course lectures are broadcast on the Virtual University's TV channels, VTV1, 2, 3 & 4. You can see your timetable from the “Lecture Schedule” tab in your LMS. Please contact your local Cable Operator if you can not access these channels. The list of Cable Operators can be accessed from the VU homepage under Student Services.
  • Virtual University has also established a full channel on the very popular youtube web site. To view lectures at any time of your convenience, you can visit http://www.youtube.com/vu . The same link is available on the main VU website under VU Lecture Videos .
  • Finally, you can obtain all VU courses on DVDs from the Virtual University bookshop at nominal cost. Each DVD carries one complete course and frees you from the time constraints of the broadcast schedule and the bandwidth requirements of the online lectures.
  • If you are registered at a VU campus, you will be provided computer access and Internet connectivity free of cost.
  • However, if you are studying from home you will need to have your own computer and an Internet connection.
  • DSL Broadband Internet Connectivity is available to VU students at subsidized costs.
  • The same DSL Broadband facility can also be availed by campus students who have their own computers.
  • Course Handouts are available on each course's website from the Lessons tab as well as the Download tab.
  • They are also available for free download in the VU Content Library .
  • In case you wish to acquire a paper copy of the handouts, you can buy them from the University’s Bookshop .
  • Try to list down your daily activities along with approximate time required for each activity. This will help you in effectively managing your time.
